a few WIWs

This time of summer is very busy, and I'm enjoying my smaller wardrobe very much.  I've started to compare every outfit to my current favorite combo (chambray shirt, white shorts, black belt and black birks - #5).  Do I feel as fab in this?  If not, I need to figure out what isn't right, and probably purge or alter some.
Here's a few of the things I have worn, not everything has gotten photographed.

#1 - gray boyfriends (actually full length, just super rolled) have replaced my missing blue ones. This is a playing with neutrals mixing.  White mesh-sleeved sweater, gray jeans, brown belt and shoes.  I felt good in this.
#2 I tried it with my new made vest (I took your suggestion and cut off the sleeves of a jean jacket).  I liked the way it looked, but it was too warm today.
#3 bright pink and white, gray and white camo shoes. I wanted to wear something untucked for a change, but this wasn't the right choice of what to leave untucked - the hem is looking sloppy.
#4 dressier version of the same outfit.  The untuck works here, maybe?
#5 My current favorite outfit - oft worn.  The blue is gauzy cotton and quite cool for humid summer weather.

Loving the mesh shirt! You look super comfy casual yet well put together.

Love #1 and #5 and the pink pants!

One and five are my favorites! I agree that the second look with the pink pants works a little better, a combination of it the breezier top and the lack of sleeves balancing out its extra volume.

The first look is awesome both ways!  Beautiful job with the new vest!  I do like #4 better than #3 -- the lightness of the fabrics suit the color scheme.

I can certainly see why #5 is your favorite -- good balance of fluid and structure.

I love #5 & can see why it's your favourite. Not sure about the proportions of #4 but it could just be the camera angle :)

Love you in 3/4 -- gorgeous colors.  I also like 1 and 5, I can see why you love 5 it's a great go-to formula, comfortable, and looks pulled together.  Not sure if the vest in 2 works with that top.  Maybe experiment with different tops?  The vest looks rather fitted and with today's looser tops, you may need to go with something more body con underneath it.

The peach is very appealing and classically attractive. I like it quite a bit with the white top and sandals. Love the grey jeans; I'm into grey jean right now...

I think these are all great!  I like #3 - I think it has a more casual vibe than #4.  the neutrals in #1 look great together.

You look wonderfully comfy and casual and pulled together.  What are those sandal/shoe thingies in the 1st 2 pics?  Are they comfy?

I also really like #5.  I noticed right away that #5 is the only one with a v-neck - I personally favor v-necks or higher necks in a sleeveless style. I wonder if that is one of the factors in your happiness of #5? The neckline of a top really makes a huge difference in how it impacts the overall shape of an outfit.

Great job on the vest!  I think I'd try to pair it with something really feminine.

Also, I wonder, if you only wear the pink pants in summer, have you considered making them into above the knee roll up shorts?

I think this experiment really is working for you. Every outfit looks great to me. #2 and #5 are my favorites, but they all work for you.

What a great idea to compare all outfits to your favourite one! I love your favourite, too -- it's very similar to one of my own favourite summer outfits.

My second favourite here is #1, followed by #2.

So glad this experiment is working well for you.

You look great in every outfit--though I do agree aboutthe hem. You really take dressing simply to a whole other level.

I love #1! I agree with Denise re-#2 as I love the vest, but I'm a little unsure as to how it looks over the sweater. I agree with you that #4 looks better untucked than #3 and I adore #5! I think you're really finding your groove Amy. These are great!

    I like #5 best.

Nice idea - have a "gold standard" outfit.  #5 is a god one.  I also love 3 and 5 but all outfits say casual and cool summer.

  • E replied 9 years ago

OMG I love #1! And #5 is clearly what you should be wearing when you're thrifting, so you can become fussier. :) (Can't remember if you're on a shopping ban or not.) I love the idea of a gold standard outfit!

I love #4 too, but that's totally a look I'd wear in a heartbeat (in fact, I have pink skinnies & blousey white tops, so I might have to copycat you), so I'm probably biased. It seems girlier than your usual style, for what that's worth. :)

Eva - Brilliant idea.  I have a thrifting trip planned for next Tuesday, I think.  I'll wear that and know that anything I thrift must feel at least as good as that does.  Thank you!

MuseumGal - the sandals in #1-2 are Borns, and yes, they've very comfy. But I know they're quite old, and I'm not sure they still have anything like them.  They make me laugh because I've had them 2-3 years now (bought at a rummage sale), and they've always just been 'meh'.  This year, however, I get compliments every time I wear them - they're suddenly cool :)
