Advice from a four year old

My four year old son was just looking at the picture perfect challenge with me.  So I told him I needed to decide what to wear tomorrow.  He had a few suggestions:

  • I should wear my head.
  • I should wear clothes that are mine.
  • I should wear a cool shirt, that is mine, and cool pants, that are mine.
  • I should also wear cool teeth and cool eyes.
  • I asked him what color I should wear.  Yellow pants and a yellow shirt (yellow may be the only color that I own none of).
Just thought I'd share - the conversation made me smile.

Maybe I should note that it's a common battle with him that he "borrows" his older brother's clothes that fall off, and gets sent back to his room to put on his own clothes.

How cute! Sounds like he is processing the instructions to "wear clothes that are mine!"

Well, aside from the yellow, it seems like you've pretty much got this one in the bag! :D

    That's one wise little man!

So adorable! How do you keep from laughing out loud as he is telling you this? Also it sounds like he thinks you are picture perfect as you are, yellow clothes regardless.

So funny that he wants to make sure you remember to wear your teeth and head!!!  And to wear your own clothes.  Although there might be a kernel of truth here, as sometimes I am so focused on the outfit, maybe I *do* forget to bring my head/brain with me!

I had to open this thread when I saw the title :) Sound advice from your little man - you need to keep this tucked away for down the road!

When my daughter was about that age her preschool class made Mother's Day cards. Each student created a tribute to his or her mother by completing sentences, the teacher writing the response as the student dictated. I always wondered what the teacher thought about me after I received my card. My daughter had dictated that I cook "chicken patties" best. (Pre-breaded frozen, nuked. She inherited her dad's taste buds not mine and always hated my beloved veggies and salads.) There were more questions, the most embarrassing being, You look pretty "when you are dressed." (My husband and I paraphrased this as, "For Pete's sake, Mom, put on some clothes!" For the record I did not hang around the house naked.)

No Deb - we start Monday - but at the time I was thinking that we did start tomorrow.

Too cute! I taught Kindergarten for a few years and I could write a book of the things kids say!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

So funny. I need him to come and give me fashion advice in the mornings. Especially the part about remembering to wear my head.

Has he been reading YLF and noticing all the headless photos? "If Mom's getting fashion advice from *them* ..."
