Dress face-off

Ceit, in addition to sending me a jacket, sent me this fabulous twist dress, after she saw my home-made version.

So now I have two options that I think are both pretty good for this upcoming wedding (we leave in less than three days, ulp!)

Ceit's dress is a raspberry color (it doesn't seem as bright as fuschia to me, but I don't know my colors well), and my homemade one is more cranberry.  I'd wear the silver shoes and lighter necklace with either one, most likely.

Which one should come with me to California?
(Beach afternoon wedding, the dress code is "Hawaiian casual")

#1-3 Raspberry dress from Ceit.  It's Ponte, I think.

#4-6 Cranberry homemade dress, It's crinkle cotton with sequins.

(And should I try to sneak to the store to buy some shapewear?)

My husband votes cranberry, as my lumps and bumps are less visible in it :)

I think whichever one you feel most at ease in! I think shapewear would smooth some of the lumps (well earned, Super Mama!) but who wants to wear shapewear in hot weather?!

You can always use the one I sent as a pattern to make more that are customized to your fit. The colour looks really nice on you.

I like #2 - the length & the back view are the clinchers for me :)

I think the one Ceit sent is more dressy looking for a wedding. You have a lovely figure and a simple cami (not even shapewear) might be enough to placate Mr. Ami!

    Thanks All!

Kate - I love the color and the fabric of the dress you sent, and I think even with a simple slip it'll probably work.  The slip I have is too long though.  So if I get a chance to go to the store before Sunday, then it's that one.  (Also, it's summer, so I expect to lose at least one of these rolls... :)  )

I think whichever one you feel the most fab in, is the answer! They both are easy to wear, easy to pack, and great colours for you. So really, you can't lose.

Yes, pack both! Then you are sorted.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

agreed they are both terrific on you. Wear the one that makes you feel best.

Yeah, Ceit!  Love the raspberry color on you!  I think for the wedding, I prefer the shape of the cranberry dress.  I suspect that the deliberately wrinkled look of the fabric isn't photographing as well as it looks IRL.

Yes, for this occasion, I vote cranberry too.  I like the drape better.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

They both look lovely but I have a slight preference for the fit of the one you made. It skims you body a little better.

Wow, great choices! You can't go wrong here. I have a tip for homemade, cheap shapewear which is a lot more comfortable in hot weather than regular shapewear: I use a hose with hold-in top, cut off the legs and wear it as a bicycle shorts under my dress. Works like a charm, and smooths those bumps just enough to make you feel more at ease. You have a fab figure, Amy, and this is going to make all the difference you need. Promise!

For the wedding, I prefer the fabric of the cranberry dress!
    Try
shapewear, it's always nice to have for these occasions!

I like how the cranberry dress fits you better, but the raspberry color is so beautiful. A sleek cami and the great DIY shapewear from Ingunn might just do the trick. (I'm taking notes ;-))

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

The cranberry looks more formal, so I'd go with that one.

I have a slight preference for the cranberry one you made. I think Ingunn's idea is brilliant too!
