K/R Cobalt cords

And looking at the pics, I think these are returns too.  They're not as bad as the burgundy ones, but they don't seem totally fab either - instead, a bit frumpy. I'm running errands tonight, and these two cords will be going back.  (If they have a size down, I might try them on, because I do like the warmth of cords an awful lot...)

But since I took the pics, I'll show them to you anyway :)

Yeah, I tend to agree they're nothing special. They'd require styling. I do find cords warm and cozy in winter though.

Seems like your eye is well trained! I find returns to be an integral part of building a cohesive wardrobe, i sometimes have to get it home to try it and see it and know...

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

FWIW... i think these actually fit you pretty well, but YOU dont seem happy with them and that is the KEY :)

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

I wonder if you would like a trouser or BF style better than a skinny-esque type. I think that sometimes that's the only way I can get fluid fit with the right proportions through the leg; otherwise they seem to want to be worn very fitted. Did you say what brand these are? I recall LandsEnd had a range of different cuts in corduroys.

  • replied 10 years ago

    I do like the color

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

These are target cheapies.  I don't remember the brand (probably Merona).  And I like the color lots, and they fit fine.  But they're just not "wow". And I have too many clothes to go buying things that aren't a 10/10.  So back they go :)  My tomato red jeans are much better than these.

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Wait--am I missing something? I think these are FAB Amy.  You don't have anything this color that I've seen and they are so fun.  The fit doesnt look bad at all.  Last night I saw that Joy sized up in her Kut Diana skinnies to get just the effect you are wearing in the pics.  They look really good on your hips and butt.  You could try a size down for comparison, because they will probably "give" some too, but I think you should consider keeping them, especially since they are Target "cheapies."  These could end up being your favorite pants!

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

perhaps having just a plain old sweater on with them is affecting how you feel?  I'd try styling them first.  But, yes, if they don't feel like 10's, and you have tons of clothes already, I'd hold out.  I'm there right now with my white jeans.  I am prepared to continue the endless search and returns until I find 9+ ones!

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Hmm... Food for thought.  I don't have anything this color, it's true.  Nor do I have any cords - my winter pants are all denim or dressy black (or gray) wide-leg pants.

And they do fit properly, that's also true.

But in the same case - this is actually how I'd style them most of the time - with a plain old sweater.  I may have to flip a coin on whether to keep them.  For $12, they won't break the bank, but will I feel really fab when I wear them?  When I do want to style them better, will they let me?

    Hmm...

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I like them too. Not frumpy at all. Wear them with black, orange and burgundy.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Thanks Angie - you liked yesterday's burgundy too, when no one else did - what do you see in them that works or doesn't?

You and kary have almost swayed me to keeping these...

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Both the burgundy and cobalt skinny cords fit well, suit your lifestyle and style persona, and add a great spot of colour to your daily life - which I've learned is important to you after reading your musings on this forum for a year. The Winter is cold and long. These will refresh your style and won't break the bank.

If I in any way thought they were frumpy or did not fit well - I would tell you. That's my job. But you have to wear them and feel fab, Amy. Not me. So wear them round the house a little and sleep on it. xo

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Will do Angie - I do think the burgundy are a bit big, and I'm going to look to see if I can replace them with a smaller size.  I'll keep these cobalt, and maybe the burgundy.  You're right that I really crave color when it's dismal outside, and winter hasn't even begun yet.

I didn't realize until this year that winter really is my dominate season - mostly because I run so chilly.  Some of my more active kids are still wearing shorts and tees every day.  (As I sit here in three or more layers, hovering over a space heater.  Sheesh).

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

Amiable--At first I, too, thought these pants were nothing special on you. After reading Karymk's and Angie's responses I took another look. I scrolled up so your sweater didn't show, and then I could see clearly that these pants fit you fantastically well! (I have a bit of envy because I know Target pants will NEVER fit my long legs.)

Anyway, they're a fun color, and you could try some different tops with them until you find a combination that feels good.

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Heck I'll even BUY these for you for 12$!!! Keep!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

    Chuckling @ Kary.

Amy, are the cobalt a size smaller than the burgundy?

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Yes - the Cobalt are 10 and the burgundy are 12.  I used to wear an 8 but since working out and growing a butt (trying not to be bitter :)  ), coupled with wearing long underwear under everything, a 10 really does look better on me.

  • Tanya replied 10 years ago

I like the cobalt ones so much better than the burgundy version, and I vote keep for the cobalt pair.  If you can find the burgundy in the smaller size, I would get those too.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Ah. Size 10 it is. I love your attitude, Amy. xo

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

I like these, too, Amy.  And I second trying the color with burgundy -- it feels unexpected and modern.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Hmm... The closest store with the burgundy in the size 10 is an hour away....  I'm thinking it's unlikely that I'll be exchanging the burgundy.  They may have to be just returned :(  (Maybe I'll try to buy them online - after all, I know they'll fit like the blue ones)

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

I'm in the doesn't-seem-too-exciting-to-me camp on these. I agree with you that a cheap price is not a reason to buy if you don't like them in the first place. Even if something is cheap, if you don't want to wear it, it's money down the drain.

I don't wear Target clothes because nothing there fits me, but my concern is, how well will they launder? Will the cobalt color fade significantly? That would defeat the whole purpose of buying them.

Man, I sound like the Grinch!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Amy - I'm headed to my local Target tomorrow - you want me to look for the burgandys in a 10?
I think the blue ones are fine - but because they're cords, I think they are going to take some real effort to style them in such a way that they don't slide into frumpville.  (But, you know how I feel about cords.  So sorry, I'm not much help!)

  • Jeanie replied 10 years ago

Late to the discussion but I just LOVE these on you!  The color pops and they look warm and fit terrific.  I think they are great with a casual sweater.
