The Spiegel... (K/S/E)

My Spiegel jacket arrived today. And I need your opinion.

I ordered a 10.  If I'd actually read the sizing guidelines on their site, I probably would have ordered a 12. (And I suspect I could have easily gone up to a 14).  So I'm kicking myself.  I had hyped it up in my mind as gloriously drapey.  And the size I got is NOT drapey on me.  In fact, when it's snapped, it's way too tight.

I'm sorely disappointed (probably enhanced by other disappointments - my hard drive died, I'm tired from a super busy week, etc...)  The one redeeming factor is that I'd wear it open anyway - so maybe it's not a big deal that it's too tight when it's snapped.  It's currently worn over a light tee shirt.  I'd like it to fit over a sweater, but didn't try it on with one yet.  I suspect it'd be snug.

What do you think?  Should I try to exchange it? (Or sell this one and buy a bigger size?  Current price is a bit over $50)  Since it's leather, should I just let it stretch out a bit?

As a side note, their email said that they shipped UPS.  The tracking code they provided was FedEx, and USPS actually delivered it.  Go figure.

(And whoa - check out those reflective strips on my Keens...)

I vote to exchange it. I buy jackets all the time that are too tight closed that I wear exclusively open, because I like how they look with less material flapping about when they are open. However this looks too short to me and I would hope a size or two up would give you more length. I like how it looks besides the length.

It fits beautifully open. If you exchange maybe you can get the same price on a bigger one you can snap.

Oh, I do love it open! Whether through selling or exchange, I hope you can get the correct size.

Ooh, I love it on you. I would definitely try the next size up. I would want the option of wearing it opened and closed.

Looks great on you! Hope you can find a size up so you can be more comfy.

I would see if you could get the size up. It looks great open on you, but being able to wear it closed would be good.

I would size up for reasons others (and you) have stated. I got mine yesterday (a 12 which fits me just right although I was expecting it to be huge after all the other reviews. I normally wear 12 but sometimes 14 for my bust) but have not posted pics yet. I need to really try to style it to fully decide. I got it for $34 shipped but am trying to keep my sale goggles out of the equation. If I decide not to keep it Deborah is first in line, but if she passes I will let you know.

Try to exchange for a more comfortable size. The reflective strip on your shoes just draws attention to your great legs!

So interesting about the sizing -- I wonder if it is smaller/ shorter women who find it fits large vs. taller? Sounds that way.

It looks great on you and would be worth exchanging, if you can!

Sorry you have had a rough week. Hard drive crashes are not fun. At all.

Well, I think it looks good but it's probably best to exchange for one that is comfortable when done up. I don't love the look of mine buttoned but I can still wear it that way if it's cold or rainy, which is a good option to have.

I think it's cut smaller through the back, which works for me but broader shoulders or back might find it too tight there.

Eta: suz has a point. I am short and beyond short waisted, and I found it on the roomy side.

It looks great when opened, but I think you should try to size up. Even if you will wear it opened most of the time, there will be times when it will get chilly and you will want to close it, or at least wear a sweater under it.

It looks fabulous unbuttoned!  I, too, didn't find it as huge as everyone said it would be.  I hope they are able to exchange it!

I would exchange/return for the size up---as you say the drapiness is lost.

I just got mine (size 8) and also did not find that it ran small---so maybe, as Suz says, that's only true at the smaller sizes or for shorter people.

Sometimes I think an item isn't sized evenly from the smallest to the largest versions of the item.  Also, a size 12 apple might fit in a smaller size, if the back is cut closer to the body than the drapey front.  There's also a greater difference between a 12 and 14 than between, say, a 4 and a 6.

Thanks for sharing this!  I like the shape on you very much.  Do you have the sense that it will "give" as you wear it?

I think it looks AMAZING on you.  If you want to try a size up, do it, but if you're only going to wear it open (as I am) this size is great too.  I ordered 4, 6 and 8, and the 4 is the one that fit, which surprised me - so maybe Suz's theory is correct that it's more TTS on taller gals?
