WIW - summer brights

I was hoping to post some more musings tonight - things about how I wonder if I'm cheating by moving items back and forth between closets and the basement 'thrift store' when I decide to maybe wear them, or about how maybe I'm happier in just blue, black and white instead of allowing the versatility of other colors....  But, I hurt my fingers trying to move a sliding bench tonight, and typing hurts and is slow. (I know, I'm a wimp.  My hubby doesn't think I'll even lose a fingernail.  But it does really hurt).

So I'll just post my outfits for the week instead.  Or at least the ones I haven't posted yet.

Here they are :)

#1 My first deviation from black/white/blue in over two weeks.  Now my closet feels more complicated.  But I love this color.
#2 I think this top is too big.  Do you agree?  Also the orange isn't very sour - it's more coral.  Is it a good color for me, or are others a better choice?
#3-4 Cobalt/black striped dress is now altered to have better fitting sleeves and armholes.  Wore this to the county fair with my kids, who were all in orange shirts to make them easy to keep track of - so the orange pullover was a nod - "Yes, I am their Mom".
#5 - black EF dress with jean jacket.  Is this jacket dated?  I wonder if it should go - what do you think?
#6 blue gingham with navy pedal pushers.  Worn to do crafts with my kids.  I learned  (and taught them) how to use a band saw and drill press.  I stayed away from the table saw though.  Too much power for me.

There were a few other outfits this week - all white and blue to my recollection.  They've already been posted in other threads.

Posting and running to bed...  Have a good night ylf!

But comments and suggestions while I sleep are definitely welcome.  I'll answer them tomorrow.  And heh,I wrote a lot for sore fingers...

I love that wine or eggplant color on you, too, and outfit 1 is very cool and relaxed looking. You look so great in that tomboy style with a touch of drape and femininity.
I also like 2, and I do like that color on you, though I will qualify: it's hard to tell colors on screen. Comparing it to the wine color, I like the wine better on you; it seems to bring out your eyes.
Cobalt stripe dress is really cute, especially with your Birkenstocks. What a great idea to dress your kids all in orange to keep track of them. And your orange pullover to identify you, too--fun and practical.
I like the dress in 5 and the general shape of the jacket over it. But I wonder about the sleeves on the jacket--they do seem to date it. Rather than discard it, could you cut out the sleeves and turn it into a denim vest? It's perhaps worth a try if you'd just be sending it off somewhere anyway.
Oh, my, you look great in navy gingham! Your little guy is adorable, too. I'm impressed you and your kids are learning to use power tools.

Ow! Hope your finger gets better soon. Meanwhile you had a great looking week. No reason to be so strict with your closet plan (imho). I mean it is just an experiment, you are not getting graded and you can make your own rules. And that color is great on you. Agree with Firecracker about the sleeves on the jacket (which I had not even noticed on first glance), vest or even a rough edge might work better.

Great idea to make a vest of it - And I've been wanting a vest too!  (I was acutally worried about the collar dating it - it's got that button-all-the-way-up high stance thing going on).

I hope your fingers feel better soon! Limiting your typing isn't being a wimp: it's listening to your body. :) And I'm so impressed you're learning to use power tools: they terrify me, because I'm a klutz. And I almost decapitated a finger once with an immersion blender (luckily, it healed with just a pale scar to remind me). But I do wish I was more handy.

Anyway, I think the warmth of that orange top is beautiful on you. As is the top in #1! How interesting that you think you might prefer a very monochromatic wardrobe though.

I'm echoing Shevia: there's no cheating when your goal is to figure out how to make your closet functional!

1 is a perfect outfit in my book! Up that is a great look on you! Sorry to hear about the finger.... Not losing a fingernail is a pretty high sympathy standard!

Guys! My husband holds himself to such a high standard it kills me. I swear, unless the digit falls off, it "doesn't hurt."

I don't know about "cheating" when moving items back and forth. Are you moving them because you have now had time to think and you are making better choices--in which case, carry on.Or are you moving clothes back and forth on a whim because you want something "different" just for the sake of difference. If so, nothing wrong with tat either--but it is important to know why you are doing what you'redoing--that's the point of the experiment!

Love the wine coloured top and the white.

    What's a band saw?

sorry to hear about your accident. I really like the eggplant color on you. I think the idea to make the jacket a vest is brilliant. I would say just go with what you want to do re moving items back and forth. If I start making too many rules for myself it is a sign - and it takes the fun away too.

Thanks everyone - I thought the wine/plum top was a winner :)  And I'll probably chop those sleeves really soon and try out my new 'vest'.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

You had me with the very first outfit. My favourite. Hope your finger feels better soon. xo

The first two are my favorites, too!  Love the top in #1, but also the color on you.  I think FC has a great idea to fashion a vest out of your jacket.

So sorry to hear about your fingers.  As a musician, I tend to give them high priority!  I mean, I know I'm a singer, but I have to tickle the ivories every day, too!  A little ice, and a comforting popsicle, too!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Oh your poor fingers!!!  Hope they feel better.

The first outfit is stellar. You look so fab in that wine colour. Wow. I love all of your other outfits as well, esp the last blue gingham shirt outfit. What a great idea to chop off the sleeves of the denim jacket! I think you should totally do that.

Lucky kids to have a crafty mom. I am SO bad at that stuff....

  • replied 9 years ago

I don't know what it is (white bottoms?) exactly about the first outfit, but it really jumps out at me as superlative. I'm sorry for your sore finger. I find it hard to forget the pain of a bad hangnail when I'm typing! As for your challenge, I say cheat away, (if it even is cheating), as long as you keep track of what you're doing and can learn from it. That's the real point, right?

I really like outfit #1. You've got the, "Stylish mom on the go," look nailed. I agree with the majority, that turning the jean jacket into a vest  is a winning idea. LOL, my mom used to dress my youngest brother in orange whenever he was outside, so she could easily spot him.
