WIW: a backlog

Part of repeating more outfits is that I feel less interested in taking pictures.  Then I wear an outfit that's not a repeat but that I know is mediocre, and skip taking a picture then too.... I'm getting lazy.

Anyway, here's a few pics that I've taken of the past week or so WIWs.

#1 grape sweater with blue jeans.  I tried to wear earrings, but they hurt my ears and I took them out.  I think I may be developing a metal sensitivity.

#2 gray-out.  I was trying for wearing a statement necklace with a very simple backdrop.  (Too bad my undershirt is peeking out).

#3-4 Black and blue - this sweater is really much darker than it looks in the photo - almost an ink.  And I have no idea what the pants are - they're a super wide pant, with a split panel skirt overlay - kinda like swingy chaps.  Do those have a name?  Are they dated?  They fit me well, and were fun to swoosh around in, but my kids though they were silly, and I'm not sure it's a very slimming silhouette.

#5 The good ol' coral/navy/brown formula again.  The pants are navy (or ink) skinnies that I bought during an all-day Goodwill tour yesterday.  I bought lots, and you'll get to see them soon I'm sure, considering that I'm on team wear :)

All comments are welcome - especially suggestions for improvement :)

I love #1, 2 and 5, especially the jeans in #1 and 2. I'm not so sure about the pants in #3 and 4, but take that with a grain of salt. I feel like if you have slim legs (as you do), you ought to show it. I know there are other slim leg folks (Angie!) who enjoy the wide legs sometimes, but I always like the slimmer silhouettes. Great job!

I seem to like 3/4 best! Of course the other outfits are brilliant too. But I like little doses of unexpected and I think the wide leg pants are cool! Makes anyone do a double take :).

Also the color of the sweater in pic 1 is gorgeous on you.

These are all really nice. I actually quite like the ink blue with black pants(skirt?). It's very feminine and pretty on you, the scarf is a nice addition.
You wear pants so well. From what I can see the skinnies look good. The only thing I'm not sure about is the length of the sweater with the skinnies in the last pic. It could simply be the angle at which the photo was taken.

I really like the color combo in picture 4 - very complimentary on you!

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Tina, you're right about the sweater length - it's annoyingly short, and kept creeping up over the skinnies.  I'm on the lookout for a longer replacement.

I know what you mean about repeating and not feeling like taking pictures. You look wonderful in all these but my favorite is #1. Have you worn the purple sweater of that photo with the grey jeans of #2?

  • Kiwibird replied 10 years ago

I REALLY like those pants/skirt!  They are so different and as Neel said, they are unexpected - and make a statement in themselves.  Love the blue and black on you, and the scarf looks lovely!  You also look great in the purple sweater!!!

    Thanks you all!

Joy, I think I have, but I'm not sure.  I'm making a note now to wear them together - thanks!

You look terrific! I am especially drawn to 1 and 2. Love the grey-out look and  statement necklace, but I think it would look even better if the pendant sat in the neckline instead of over the V. Is it adjustable, by any chance?

  • replied 10 years ago

I think all of these look good. Those swishy pants are at Zara right now and a couple other places.

  • April replied 10 years ago

Actually, in your photo of #2, the undershirt looks like a deliberate layer.  :)  I like carambola's idea of a necklace that complements the neckline, although the way this one falls also breaks up the grey with some color.

The swishy pants look good on you, and I'm interested to hear whether you found them practical -- did they get in your way at all?  (As far as the kids finding them silly, my response when my son criticizes my clothing is, I'm supposed to take fashion advice from someone wearing basketball shorts hiked down to expose his boxers?)

You look terrific in all of these… but I especially love #1. That grape color is quite flattering on you. Agree with Joy that you should try the grape sweater with the gray jeans. That would be a fab combo.

You know what looks good on you, so even though you may be bored, you've nailed your look. The pants in 3 & 4 (are they palazzo pants?) are a different look for sure...are you wearing dressy heels with them? It seems to me they could be a fun dress up option.

ETA you are tall, right? So you can pull off 3 &4 I think in real life.

Guilty as charged! I don't mind wearing repeats (and, well, with the size of my wardrobe I actually have to...) but when I wear them simply so I don't have to take a photo, that feels like cheating. Especially since my whole point in taking more regular photos was not necessarily to post here, but more to see what I'm actually wearing. Well, if I don't take pics I don't have a record. Hmmm.

Onto your outfits. I think you look absolutely amazing in the grape. Beautiful colour for you. I also like #2. Agree with Tina about the length of the last sweater. And I think the pants could be a great dress up option, for sure!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Great job on these outfits. I do not find the repeats boring at all! My faves are 1,2 with a small preference to 1 because I love this shade of grape on you. I think the swishy pants are so much fun - perhaps for your next date night?

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

All of these look great - particularly the swishy pants + cobalt top + scarf in 3/4 - amazing!

For #2, I think the gray jeans/top and pop of geometric turquoise look really modern, but I'm not sure about the length of the necklace with your neckline.  I think I'd like to see it with a higher neckline (or maybe a collared shirt layered under your sweater?) or at a shorter length, sitting inside the v-neck.

You are rocking the bright jewel tones to perfection here.  The big wide collar on the sweater in #5 is more romantic than your usual, and it looks great!

  • E replied 10 years ago

3/4 is my favourite! I love the swishiness, and you look tall and statue-esque and perfectly balanced. :) The boots & colour combo of 5 are really fun too! And doing all grey behind the necklace has a really interest, graphic design feel to it. Cool!

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I like the swishy pants too and think they would be great for dress events when you don't want to wear a dress/skirt.  The statement necklace in #2 is great and you look good in the coral and purple sweaters.
