WIW, and perfect-height heels

I was really interested by the article in the links on perfect heel height (thanks Vildy!). When I took the "test", which suggested that I'd like a 2 inch heel.

So this morning I wore my longest slacks, with 2 inch heels (nice and chunky, because my ankles aren't all that strong.) And I have to say they were soooo comfortable! I almost regretted taking them of for a little nap! I'm definitely looking for more two inch heels (and for really long pants to wear with them.)

This top also has an empire waist, so it comes in a bit toward the bottom of the rib cage - does it work to give me some shape definition? The only think I really dislike about this outfit is that the shoes are so round-toed. What else should change?

(Oh, pic #3, the coat I wore and bag I carried. It's just a basic black coat - nothing special, but it fits reasonably well)

Love the long leg line and the warm colors in the tunic. And your hair ---- your hair looks marvelous!

Dude, how cute are you! I love this outfit -- you look amazing! I love the waist and the fit and the long leg line...you look fab!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Thanks Beth Ann - I'm trying out the "choppy" pixie look, and I think I like it. Plus, it's easy to style (not that it means I'm not to lazy to style it on days I'm not going anywhere.... but still, it only takes about 5 minutes.)

    And Thank you also RunnerChick!

    You look great!

Awesome! The colors in the top are lovely and I think the empire waist is very flattering on you. It definitely creates a fitted shape on your torso and works well with the trousers. Nailed it! :)

Your legs look about a mile long!

  • pil replied 11 years ago

Agree with everyone else - you look great! Love the colors in your top.

Great colors on you and it looks like you found your heel height!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I loved that article, too! I have always known that 2 to 2.5 inches are my most comfortable height, and I got it confirmed. Actually I can go up to three, but lower than 1 is not good at all.

You look marvellous in this outfit! I love the long lean line of your legs! And the colours are lovely on you.

Now I know why flats aren't very comfortable for me and 2-3" heels are no problem, after reading Vildy's link.

As a side note, I showed horses and could never get my heels to drop "properly" in the stirrup for equitation classes without a lot of conscious effort even though I had a completely deep seat with my basically level heel (other riders will know what I mean). My heels go up naturally and easily into high heels, but lowering my heel is fighting my ankle's construction. Interesting confirmation that makes great sense!

You look great in this outfit! The colors and shhape of the top look really good on you.

I love this look on you with such lovely colours and what long legs! Great hairstyle. By the way I have a touch of hypermobility in my joints so my ankles go miles in either direction lol!

Is there any chance you could post, or point the direction to, this link with a "test"? I'd love to see it.

Love the shirt, great colour on you. Your legs are super long and they look great in those pants, I am envious! I just did the quiz and it explains why I can trot around no problem in 3" heels. Thank you for pointing it out!

I think you've really found your style and I always enjoy your WIWs!

    Thanks ladies! What encouragement!

After looking at my pics again, I think I'd like a black cami under the top, rather than a v-neck tee shirt. That will have to go on my list of things to watch for (or make). And I'm not sure my pants are *quite* PPL in these shoes - they're close, but probably between 1/2" and 1" from the ground. I didn't measure.

    KILLER

    Your best outfit to date!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Whoa! My first K-rating! Thank you Angie!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Best outfit yet! You look smashing!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

    Thank you!

I find it funny that I can't put my finger on why this outfit works - is it just that there's no glaring errors?

But I'm basking in your compliments anyway, and know that I'll figure it out eventually! :)

  • replied 11 years ago

Well, the top is really flattering, because it nips in under your bust and then skims over the rest of your torso. The V-neck directs attention up to your face, and the new choppy soft hair is really cute.

You have great long legs, especially with 2" heels, so the pants accentuate that!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Thank you for the explanation Kate! Now I know what to look for in my clothes. Maybe I should also "do" my hair more often - this is pretty much always what it looks like when I bother. I just rarely bother :)

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

I love this outfit on you Amiable, you look smashing! The elbow-sleeve length looks really nice, as it shows some forearm and adds a touch of femininity (this is part of why pushing up your sleeves, especially in more masculine influenced outfits, can really help balance things); the v-neck echoing the exposed skin is also a nice touch. Your hair also looks super FAB! I too would say that a pointier shoe (maybe almond if you don't like the really pointy) would up the ante here, but this still looks great. So! These look like bootcuts, yes? Do the hems skim the ground? 0:)

EDIT: Wanted to add that your outwear looks fab, too!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Nothing to add but just wanted to say that you look fantastic! Well done :)

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

What pretty colors! I love the coat and bag on you, actually. I used to have a coat like that. I wonder if it's still at my mom's...

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Thanks Aida - I am hoping to find some almond-toe shoes. To me the super-pointy is too trendy to feel like "me". And my pants do seem just a smidge short - I didn't measure, but they weren't more than an inch from the ground. I much keep an eye out for ones that I can wear with the 2inch heels! I didn't think they were bootcuts - I think they're plain and simple wide legs (they don't go in at the knee), but I'll double check before I say so certainly.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Gotcha! Bootcuts and wide legs both look best when they're juuuust off of the ground. I think Angie's PPL rule is 1/4" off the ground, but I actually wear mine sweeping the floor in most cases. With slimmer straight legs you can have the hem up higher, but these don't appear to be quite tapered enough for that. If they don't need much extra length, perhaps you could let the hem allowance down?

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Thanks! I've already let them down as far as they'll go - so I'll likely keep them for slightly lower heels while I look for perfect shoes, and similar, but even longer, pants. :) I knew they weren't supposed to be more than a half-inch from the ground - these were just my closest shot to try out this heel height.

I'm so taking my tape measure everywhere now, to measure hem lengths....

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Pants are one of the few times I really enjoy being short ;) You could also pop your heels in your bag with you when you shop, I do that!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

These heels are so comfy, I'd wear them to shop :) I like being tall, so I'll suck it up and know that it's going to take me real work to find pants. I suppose that's one item that's a bit independent of where my style ends up going, and I could fork out real money for PPL pants before I feel like I've found my style identity and stride.

  • moira replied 11 years ago

You look beautiful! The hair is so great and those colors are perfect.
