WIW: black and blue

Thanks for thinking through and discussing updates to my style with me the other day.  It's very helpful to my thinking.

I'm coming up to my semi-annual conference dates, where I start obsessing about how to look business casual, polished and professional, very competent (I'm speaking three times this fall at this conference) and still like myself.  This outfit is an audition for that occasion.  Do you think it works?

Since the photo doesn't make it obvious, it's navy trousers with a black sweater and shoes - then a white belt and white pleather jacket.

I wore this a couple of days ago, and the column of color made me feel tall.  I think I want a couple more light colored toppers so that I can wear a column of dark color more often.

I LOVE this outfit on you! The white jacket and white belt are so fresh with the column of colour! Your hair looks fantastic! For sure you must wear this - thumbs up on the audition outfit from me :)

Wow, such a great outfit! I love navy with black, and do it often, and also ove the adition of a white jacket to a dark column, and your hair is more than gorgeous! Love the specs, too!

Oh, fantastic! I saw your post the other night but was too tired to write any responses to anything, especially after I saw others had chimed in with pretty much the same things I would have said. But this is my favorite look on you, ever. Sleek, simple, polished. Your hair looks terrific. I think this is a big indicator of your style to come. Well done!

Fantastic! Looks perfect for a conference - professional and approachable.

I should clarify that I work in a very casual male-dominated industry.  This might not be professional enough for other industries' conferences, but it's definitely formal enough for my industry.  All the other (male) speakers will be wearing khakis and a polo.  Or jeans and a polo.

I think you look competent. :) I can't get over the difference your hair has made!

And regarding my bag - I'll be carrying a laptop case rather than a handbag.  I just slip my wallet into it.

I think you look long, lean and sophisticated.  Polished and professional, too.  Your (new?) specs look great and I love your longer hair!

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

Really nice!  Love the long lean look and especially the white with navy.

This is modern, crisp and polished.  Still casual enough not to make the "boys" feel sloppy by comparison, but professional and ready to present.

I love the way your hair is framing your face -- it's sleek and fresh.  Also, the neckline and color of the jacket are super flattering!

You achieved your goal with this...professional, polished and poised. A really nice look for you.

I would love for you to put photos of those conference outfits together for the 3 years and then give yourself an enormous hug for how far you have come!!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Amy this outfit is jus fab. I love everything about it. And your hair looks so good! Reminds me of one of my fave bloggers pictured. I could see you working towards something like hers..in fact you are pretty close already:)

  • kerry replied 9 years ago

You knocked this one out of the park! I love this on you. I like that you mixed navy and black - looks great. I must remember that I CAN do this. You are right about the light toppers over dark column - really a great look. Your hair looks polished and modern.

  • Aquamarine replied 9 years ago

    So polished! YLF.....wear with confidence!

  • amiable replied 9 years ago

Suz - I haven't actually looked yet, but it did occur to me that my conference looks from two years ago (I joined YLF to figure out what to wear to this conference!) till today are a huge difference.

I feel great that I have at least one look that I LOVE for this conference.  I still need to come up with two others, but I think I can come up with two that aren't too shabby, and maybe even improve on that.  I'll be auditioning some through the week here....

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

That is a great outfit. The jacket adds special polish and professionalism to this outfit. Are you presenting?

  • Angie replied 9 years ago
