WIW: Copying Suz, and camo jeans.

I liked Suz's Flared Trousers and Fluid Knitwear combo so much that I had to copy it.  Unfortunately, my copy didn't approach the original.  My trousers were too long for the red suede boots I wanted to wear (which are flat), so I impromptu hemmed them, and got them too short.  I didn't notice, however, that they were too short until evening.  So I wore them all day long at this length.  *sigh*.  I'm letting the hem back out today, and will just reserve them for heels (which is what Angie recommends with flares either - I don't know what I was thinking!)

Today I wanted to break out my new-to-me camo pants (more Goodwill).  I found them kinda hard to style - They're so tough on their own that I thought the rest of my outfit should be more lady like.  So I paired them with a white lace shell over a white 3/4 sleeve tee, and added my red suede boots.  The jeans come over the boot tops comfortably, but look a little weird - should I tuck them in?   Also, they're huge in the waist, and it shows - should I reserve these for longer tops?  (The tee is long, but tucked in - the lace shell is short.)
I'd love some additional styling suggestions for these - I think some had suggested red, and I didn't feel like i had the right shape in red.  Would purple work, do you think?..

I like all feedback, especially suggestions!  :)

Oh my goodness, I am honoured, Amy! And you look great in your version. What a pretty scarf, and that tote reminds me of the precious Brahmin that several of our Fabbers own...I can't tell that the pants are not right in these photos and lucky you that you can adjust the lengths yourself.

Eek. I do not know why so many of my posts do this. Help! I will write to Greg.

I love the outfit in #1-2 - you look great in it! It looks laid-back, comfortable, and nice.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Thank you Suz!  I did get a lot of compliments on the outfit yesterday.   I'm so glad you gave me the idea on how to style that mesh-sleeved sweater for warmish fall.  I was very comfortable in it yesterday (it was about 55F).

    Both outfits look great!

Amy, I really like your fluid top/flares outfit!  You look tall and elegant.  I like your idea of lace with the camo pants, which look fashionably slouchy to me rather than too big.  I think the sweater from #1/2 would look great with the camo pants.

Totally in love with outfit 2!!! Perfect mix of girly and tomboy! You could also try a black top over the camo. Not very sure about purple though.

What great outfits! You have reminded me that I need to wear my mesh sweater before it gets too cold. I think the tucked tee and short lace top work well with the camo jeans, especially with the white belt.

Hm, I like the camo outfit as is, but if they have fit issues (hard to see in the photo) that's a deal breaker for me.  Can you tailor them?

Also, I like #1, and can't tell the pants are PPL from the photo.

Two great outfits.  I have camo jeans and sport them all the time.  My prefered colors to mix with them are black, light grey and ivory.  I also enjoy a denim jacket paired with them.

1 is an excellent homage to Suz's inspiration outfit! I would never have noticed the pants length, but letting them out to wear with heels mike make it even better. I think you could really wear just about any color with those camo jeans - except for bright orange ;)

Outfit #1 is one of your best ever! I like #2 as well. Nice job!

I LOVE the first outfit. I can't see the difficulties with the 2nd one. I wonder what blush would do paired with the camo?

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Amy I adore you in the "new" camo pant! It looks awesome with the lacey top, white belt and red shoes. The pants look like they fit really well.

If you want to feminize the outfit a little more, how about add a metallic necklace?  What purse did you plan on for this look?

You look fab in the first outfit! Flares definitely suit you....nice! Not an expert on camo so can't really comment, bit I think purple could work, if it was a more grayish or dusty purple.

Love #1 :) esp the striped bag!

(ive got a poison eye for camo so no feedback there)

These are great outfits! Try camo with maroon. Or citron if you can wear it. I wear camo like a neutral but not everyone loves it, I know.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

These are both fantastic outfits Amy! Love your fluid outfit in particular. You look fantastic in those trousers. And the camo pants are fab.

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Both of these look good to me!  I think you definitely can 'hold your own' with Suz's look in # 1 & 2.  Can't tell from the pics that the trousers are too short -  but I bet they'll look even better once you lengthen them and wear with a heel.  Because the camos are too big around the waist in the 2nd outfit, it makes me want to reach out and grab them and pull them down further onto your hips - you know, make them more slouchy, straight-legged/skinny type of jeans - instead of wearing them with a belt and trying to camoflauge the fact that they are too big in the waist!  Have you tried that?  I think they look fine worn over your boots like you have them.  Also, I would treat them like a neutral - and pair any color I wanted to with them - blue, black, white, cream, yellow, red, purple, pink, navy, etc. etc.  I think that if you wore a top that wasn't tucked, that it would only emphasize the fact that they are a little too big, so I'd keep my tops tucked and/or cropped!
Finally - what are you doing different with your hair?  It looks really cute this way!

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Thank you Marley - great suggestion to pull my pants down a smidge (and...done).

Thanks also for the hair compliment.  I've been trying to grow out my short pixie for a while, and I'm finally to a longish pixie that isn't too difficult to style (I just flat-iron it)  I originally thought I wanted to grow it to chin length and to an A-line bob, but I'm not sure - I guess we'll see how long my patience holds out :)

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Well your hair is super cute - it looks like you have a lot of it (very envious of that!)  I think it would be fun to see how you looked in a bob - even a short one I think would totally change up your style a bit - and I remember seeing in a recent thread of yours that your style may be transitioning to something a little different anyway - so, a different hairstyle kind of makes sense!

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Haha - you are correct - I have a LOT of hair.  The individual strands are fine and straight (mostly), but there's so many of them that at certain (shorter than this) lengths, it just all sticks out.  :)

  • carter replied 10 years ago

Love the first outfit.  I don't think the pants look too short in the pictures.  I struggled with camo many years ago, but could never figure it out either.  I'll look forward to your next WIW with them, based on all these great suggestions.

  • E replied 10 years ago

You look wonderful in that first outfit, especially in pic #2! You were made for fluid fit: you look so tall and elegant and yet relaxed. :)

I have a poison eye for camo (I think growing up as a military brat has something to do with it), but that lace blouse is lovely too, as are your red boots.

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

You look so pretty in pics 1 and 2! I think white is a great color on you, and your hair is, as Marley said, super cute. Your pants make your legs look long; that's interesting because I thought they did the same for Suz.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Is it worth adjusting the waistband on the camo pants, Amy? You are handy with the sewing machine.

I like the red boots with the camo pants too.

And isn't fab that we can let out hems. xo
