WIW: departing from my norm a bit

(though not a lot...)

Yesterday (#3), warmth was more important to me than much else, so I pulled out this old hand-knit circle sweater.  My mom made it for my little sister, who is living in Spain this year and found it too bulky to take along.  So I'm housing it for the year.  I realize that it has a bit of frump to the look, but it was indeed warm.  And I never did put on shoes - just stayed inside all day.

Today (#1-2), I'm wearing a sweatshirt that I made Tuesday night.  This camel fabric had been begging to be made into a drapey sweatshirt for a while, and I finally listened to it.  I wish I'd made more drape in the front cowl, but otherwise, it turned out about like I imagined (which is kinda amazing since I barely even measured - I just cut and sewed).

What do you think?  Is it wearable?  (I'm asking both about the shape and the color, which is a departure from my reds, blues, black/gray/white rules).

I love the shape of the sweatshirt. It's so, so, so trendy and fashion forward. You are insanely clever to have made it. WOW.

I am however not sure of the colour. Light? Lipstick?

I like the sweatshirt and think the color looks great on you. The cut looks very modern and fun.  I particularly like the cowl, which is a little less voluminous than the bottom, so it gives the sweatshirt a little structure.

And with #3, well hooray for warm hand knits! They always get a thumbs up in my book!  BTW, the color is particularly flattering on you.  Do you have other piece in this color? If you do, you should wear them a lot. If not, you should buy!  It is a great color for you.

(LOL! That's why Angie is the expert and not me! Beige.  I have no idea really. It always defeats me.  I've given up buying any beige ever unless Angie helps me with it. Totally clueless.)

Yeah - the lighting isn't good for me to ask about the color - I'm wearing no makeup whatsoever and standing in a shadow.  I'll take a better picture later if/when I get a chance....

I love the shape of the sweatshirt, but I am not sure of the colour for you. Wow, you are talented!

The big cozy sweater is a great colour for you.

I like the sweatshirt and am impressed with your sewing! I especially like the cowl neck on you. I was thinking the color isn't as great as that purple is on you--and what a cozy sweater!  I wondered if you might add some color near your face with the sweatshirt by adding a short necklace or earrings.

Amazing sewing job, Amy! Love the fun sweatshirt. Agree with the others that the colour is not your best - but you can work with that.

I looked at the pictures before reading and thought, wow - that sweatshirt has the coolest shape! I am beyond impressed that you made it. I like the cozy purple sweater too. Gorgeous color on you!

You made the sweatshirt? You have mad sewing skills, I'm so impressed. I love the shape, it drapes perfectly. And I love the purple sweater, it's a great color for you.

Thanks for liking the shape of the sweatshirt.  i was drooling over the stuff on the AllSaints site when it occurred to me that their Rheia sweater was basically two rectangles (the front shorter and wider than the back to cowl the neck), with a band on the bottom and tube sleeves, and the idea was born...  I do like the way it drapes - I'll figure out what to wear with it (probably a scarf) to make the color not awful on me :)

Do you have a tee with a scoop or more open crew neck in a color that looks great on you? I often deploy one of my to do battle with bad color by putting a couple of wedges of good color right next to my face without cluttering the neckline with a scarf.

"I'm wearing a sweatshirt that I made Tuesday night." I really can't get past that sentence Amy. You are truly a killer app!

You are so talented!!!  To be able to look at a design and then make it in a night is amazing!!  It looks great on you - as does the handknit sweater, so cozy and warm.

Your sweatshirt has a beautiful shape and drape (hey, poetry!) You really have a talent.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Your talent is amazing! You could wear a white or colored turtleneck underneath for added warmth and color.

Cool sweatshirt!  I love when fabric talks to us.  You are so clever for recreating this.  And it has the long sleeve look like Angie posted about today.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Check out the link I posted for you! Not sure of this color but make many of these!!

i really like the sweatshirt that you made!!  Clever girl.
Not so keen on the sweater in #3 but I totally understand the need to rug up (well I feel that way in the mild Australian winter, obviously it is a lot worse where you are!)
