WIW: experimental blues

After Ceit's excellent use of mixed blues today, I decided to go blue too.

Today's orphan (day 11, I think? Wow) is nearly everything I'm wearing.

First up, the bootcut jeans. I think they work and fit well - do they?   (They're just a tad long for these shoes - I'll wear them with low heels next time)

Next up is the navy mock-turtleneck.  I'd only wear it as a layering piece, and I'd prefer a lower neck - but the high neck is nice for a chilly day, like today.

Finally, the short-sleeved navy/white circus striped cardi.  Worth keeping?  I like the punch it brings to the outfit.

Also, I realize this isn't a huge hit of an outfit, so you may see me change a time or two during the day...  I know you're patient like that and can handle it :)

I really like this as-is, Amy!

    Excellent use of orphans!

I like the jeans and sweater, but I would prefer the top's neckline to be lower.  Except for the neckline, I do think this outfit is a hit!

Love the jeans and sweater. I don't know what it is, but that neckline is hard for me to wear with a cardi or jacket. On it's own, it doesn't bother me as much. Perhaps I just want a bit more skin at the neckline if I'm piling on layers? Hmmm. Costume changes are certainly allowed or I would be in big trouble, lol!

Looks good!  The jeans are great for casual denim.  I think I'd prefer a full-on turtle to a mockneck, but the colour is really pretty on you and it works well with the sweater, which looks cozy and adds some graphic punch.  (You are holding the sweater up in pic 2 to show the fit of the jeans, right?)

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Yes AJ - I'm totally with you, and if/when I find a suitable navy layering tee, it'll replace this one.

Thanks for the outfit love - I guess it's not as bad as I imagined.  :)

(Yes, Emily, I'm holding up the sweater in pic 2 to show how the jeans fit - it covers my bum usually :)  )

AJ 'copied ' my answer ;)
Really my answer is like hers, love everything but would prefer that the neckline of the shirt would not be a the same level as the cardigan.
Very nice cardigan btw. There is a lot you can do with it.

Possible to hack this navy top and make a new neckline? :)

Great outfit Amy... and terrific use of multiple orphans. I think that the jeans and striped cardigan work well together. Would prefer to see this combo with a different topper -- one with a slightly lower neckline -- but I think that is just due to my "poison eye" for mock necks. Just ignore me here. The jeans fit well and the length is fine, allowing just enough of a peek at your cute cons.

Great outfit, I think the jeans fit very nicely. I also like the striped sweater. I would prefer a turtleneck, not too fond of the mock neck, but that's just me - I just donated all mine but kept my turtlenecks.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

I had Karie's though too -- I love the high neck of a traditional T, particularly on cold days.  OR a scarf with a regular t.  No worries, though, this one is fine!  What about a scarf?  I like the fit of the bootcuts.   Flap pockets can create bulk under things like this sweater, but then you don't have a booty with its own zip code, like me,  so I think they are attractive on you!

Love the bold sweater.  These are great for home days!

I'm impressed by your commitment to trying your wardrobe orphans. This can't be the quickest/easiest system of dressing every morning. Really sharp sweater; the white belt accents the outfit well.

Your daughter has the cutest expression in the first pic!

Fantastic orphan outfit. If you're happy in the pieces, I vote keep them all.

     DD is a scream.

I think this works quite well Amy. Oh my - your daughter is cracking me up!

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

I know, my kids are really getting into photo bombing....  At least it ups the entertainment factor?

The jeans and sweater are staying, and the mock turtleneck will stay as a stop-gap until I find a navy layering shirt that I like better :)

    Thanks for all your feedback!

I like this a lot! Impressed you can put together such a cute outfit from orphans.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

I think the jeans looks good, the mock turtle is useful/good and the cardi is probably good too but I have a sort of poison eye for that style right now (only because I can't help project how bad it would look on me).

  • carter replied 10 years ago

Why were these jeans orphans to begin with?

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

They weren't really orphans Carter - just hadn't been worn yet this fall in favor of skinny jeans.  They'll get wear though - they're super comfy!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Love the striped cardi and the outfit is awesome.  If it makes you happy keep it!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

This outfit works well for your busy MOTG life. I have a weakness for stripes.

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

This is a really cute outfit!  I especially like the addition of the white belt - it sort of mirrors the stripes in the sweater.  Also, agree that a different neckline would work better on you.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

The striped sweater and shoes create a cool kind of pattern mix.  And I am usually not a white belt person but it works here.  I like it.

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

They all look great, especially the jeans!

  • LoveSarahDub replied 10 years ago

I think you look great! Love it with the Chucks! So easy and cute!
