WIW for getting overwhelmed

Sorry for my absence through much of the week.  My hard drive died, and I'm buried in processing our produce (gratuitous pics after the WIWs).

But I did manage to remember to snap WIWs a few times.

#1 Teal tee and black dressy shorts.  I took this pic while waiting for my fuschia toe nail polish.  I added my black strappy dansko sandals.

#2 Black drapey tee with striped skirt - Angie's MOTG formula with the striped skirt, except mine's not bodycon.

#3 Cobalt shorts from JulieinMI - Thank you so much!  Love the fit and the color!  with my checked aqua shirt.

#4 jean clams, gray top with brown belt and Keens.  I liked this combo - I'm not sure why (I liked it much more with brown belt and shoes than black) and wore it two days.  Now that I see the pic, I think I should roll these shorts up to above my knee.

#5 Similar to #4, but with a coral button-down underneath.  To me, this didn't quite work.  But I can't put my finger on why.  Maybe the necklines are competing?

What do you think?  What works and doesn't work?

Bonus pics
#6 First year for our green grapes to bear.
#7 My husband (and his mother and a few kids) uncapping honey so that we can extract it.  We got about 60 lbs of honey.
#8 The bucket of peaches that I'm currently working my way through (also about 60 lbs - it's a bit over half of the peach harvest this year).
#9 Just because it's so cute - my daughter and niece in a geodesic dome that we built out of newspaper together.

What a week you've had!  #2, 4 and 5 are my favs, but you are doing a great job of creating wonderful Summer casual looks this Summer!  Sounds like your children are getting a great nature education.  They'll know where their food comes from!

Please wear the striped skirt often!

You look so gorgeous in #1! I also like 4 a lot.

Although the necklines may not be playing entirely nicely together, I think 5 not working has more to do with the bottom portion of the shirts. The button-down is not a great length for this boxy striped top, and the ruffle from it makes kind of an odd faux spare tire. Maybe this look could work better with the under layer tucked in?

Some really fun casual outfits, which I always love to see. I especially like #4! I think with number 5, it's the hems that are fighting, rather than the necklines. You could try half tucking the pink shirt, or you could try layering over a longer shirt.

Oh these are great looks. I like the coral with grey but my experience with button downs and boat necks is that the former wriggles up constantly and feels damn uncomfortable. Do you find that?
I love seeing your home produce. It is a great joy in our lives too.
Your MIL is a fine looking woman.

I think you look great in stripes - #4 is my favorite :)

PS: I love peaches. NOm nom nom nom.

I love how those crops look in 4, they make your legs endless!  cute kids!

You have some great summer looks here and yum!

Sorry you've had a stressful week -- hope things calm down for you soon.

#4 is my favorite! No rolling needed. My folks had great peaches and lots of honey this summer, too. Yum!

I really like #1. I could be wrong, but I don't think I've ever noticed you wearing earrings. I can't see these in detail, but I really like them on you.

    Also like #4.

Those peaches look delicious! And your own honey! Wow!

Great outfits! Don't know how you find time to look so stylish. It's hard to pick a fave-- 1,2,4 maybe. Super dome, too.

What a busy yet great week for your family, priceless.. Love the geodome!
As for fashion... love 4 and that striped skirt in 2!

Thanks you all!  #1 and #4 were my favorites of these too.  I'm starting to get really picky about my clothes working for me.  These outfits (except for #5) did survive the working part quite nicely.  It's such a comfort to have a wardrobe that I like and that increasingly works with my life - thank you all for helping me thus far!  (And after this past month or so being comfortable wardrobe-wise, I'm almost dreading fall - what will I do when I need a third piece again?)

I love the look with the coral shirt, it caught my eye immediately. You look great in all of them.

You have bees? We're thinking about doing that too. I'm allergic, lol, but I want to anyway. So my question is do you get stung much when doing bee maintenance?

Lovely peaches! Two years ago we had a nice harvest like that. last year we had none as the tree bloomed before a killing frost. Can't wait for this year's crop, but it's not very big.

You have fit your fashion stride, IMHO. You look great, all your outfits. I feel the knee pants really work well, a great length. Not too casual and not fussy.

p.s. The dome is too awesome.
p.p.s. Mm, peaches! That means it's time for my mum to make sour cream peach pie! Shall I remind her?

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Betti - My husband actually handles the bees - he's been stung four times - all at once, and when he was being foolish with them (didn't wear protection or smoke them).  We've had our bees a little over a year.  It's worth doing the research to get a "gentle" variety, which ours are.  Then if you're reasonably careful, I think you can expect stings to be quite rare.  That said, if your allergy is life-threatening, I'm not sure I'd risk it anyway.

This is our first year for our second peach tree - and it went gangbusters.  (In fact, the tree broke under their weight - poor tree).  We had a late frost this year that took out half of our cherries, but our peaches survived it pretty well (I have no idea why - they were in bloom).

Rachy - Thank you!  And yes, ask your mum for sour cream peach pie - it sounds wonderful!  I'm going to google a recipe for it now.

    Dear Amiable,
I studied your pictures to see if I could add anything constructive and found that the outfits with bottoms darker than the tops worked best, in my opinion, for you. I loved the first outfit which, as others have said, looks stunning! Also the stripe top/clams combo is beautifully casual and modern. I love the blue shorts but felt the lighter belt may have been adding, rather than reducing. I have found, through trial and error, that belting *over* untucked tops works wonders for waist definition. Have you ever tried this?
Anyway, you look amazing and it is a privilege to be able to share your journey :)
