WIW: hum drumming

Okay, none of these seem very special to me, but it's what I wore, and I like to share so that I can get suggestins and such from you all.  So here we go.

#1 Worn to a Christmas party (yes, we even exchanged gifts) last Saturday.  Who needs to do things on time?  Jean cutoffs, navy tee and sail-boat shirt-as-a-topper

#2 Worn on a date with my husband.  Pink linen skirt, white tank top and jean jacket (pink and orange necklace to coordinate with skirt)

#3 Worn on a rainy, chilly day - Skinnies with a black top and Ceit's jacket. I was so excited to get to wear skinny jeans again!

#4 - #5 New-to-me twirly skirt.  I was inspired by Shannon's pleated midi skirt, and I think I love it.  What do you think?  Worn with a black tee, pointy shoes (my kids said they were too pointy, and disapproved), and carrying my white bag.

#6 Another version of #3.  Worn until I decided to let the kids paint with acrylic on canvas for the rainy day, and got paint on the utility jacket.  It washed right out though.  #7 is showing off the new-to-me black and silver belt.

Suggestions for improvement?  What works?  What doesn't?

They may not seem special to you, but I think they are.

#1 is cute.  But to be honest I would like it without the shirt.  BUT i have a poisen eye for shirts worn open as 'jackets'.  It never reads to me as fully modern.

#2 Lucky DH, gorgeous outfit.  Fun and flirty.

#2 Gorgeous!  The jacket really does look fab on you.

#4/5  Wow!  That skirt was made for you.  Do you still have that edgy black top you showed us a while back?  I would love to see that with it too.  Don't listen to the kids, the pointy toe is perfect. :)

#6 is a cool look, I particularly like how you have rolled the sleeves.

    This ALL works beautifully!
Love the 'twirly' skirt in action pic 5.
The skinnies and white jacket looks great, and a shoe can never be 'too pointy' :)

You look great, the kids just haven't adjusted to seeing pointy shoes (they will).  The shirt as a topper looks dated to me mainly because it is on the short side.

O.K, just crossed-posted with Deborah, and realised the 'jacket' in pic 1 is actually a shirt. Go get a cropped floral jacket A.S.A.P. 'cause you look terrific in those colours. :))

I simply love your twirly skirts! :) Do you ever tuck in your skirt tops? :) I also love your pointy-toes!

Also; the jacket in #3 is simply fabulous! It's very edgy, but has that casual edge too! Light jackets look very nice on you (#3 and "#1")

    Christmas in July sounds awesome!

They're not special????  Girlfriend, you're crazy!  :-)  YLF in these outfits.  #4/5 has me swooning - the skirt is the star, your pointy toes add a modern/trendy touch to it - just lovely!  I agree with those who mentioned the shirt in #1 - I think I'd like the outfit better if you left it off.  The shorts are a perfect length for you and show off your great legs. You look so pretty in #2 - did you try it with the jacket unbuttoned?  That was my first thought when I looked at it (that I think I'd like it better if it was left unbuttoned.) #3, and 6/7 are modern, edgy, put-together MOTG outfits that look very flattering on you.  Oh, one last thing - what about a necklace in #4/5?  Something simple - not statementy?  Just curious how it would look.

No suggestions. Girl, you're knocking them out!

Ditto What Rachy said! Love the twirly skirt and the utility jacket outfit. Fab!

Thanks you all!  #1 was kind of a trial run for the white shirt, which is an orphan and I think is ready to be purged now.

Deborah, I did try the edgy shirt with the twirly skirt - and it looked great.  But my hubby preferred this shirt.  It's got some interest of it's own (though the pic doesn't show it) the front is wide (~3 inch) stripes of two different fabrics - so it's multimedia, which brings it up a notch from a plain black tee.

Marley, Thanks for the suggestion - I should have taken a pic unbuttoned.  I didn't like the way the tank tucked in, so I covered where it did, by buttoning the jacket :)  And great idea for a necklace in #4-5 - I'll try that out next time.

Thanks you all!  The affirmation that my outfits aren't as dull as they seem when I'm uploading and editing them is really nice too :)

My favorites are the twirly skirt outfit, the utility jacket outfit, and the outfit with Ceit's jacet. Humm...that's just about all of the outfits, isn't it? That's because you look fantastic in all of them!

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

You look awesome in these outfits.  Particularly fond of the blue skirt and its movement. Ceit's jacket and the utility jacket also look fab with those great jeans.

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

Not dull in the least! Glad you're at peace with letting the orphan go - the others are 10s to me. I'd like to see the jean jacket open, too. Maybe a belt to obscure the tucked in bit you wanted to hide?

Sounds like you have the topper sorted in #1. The rest are seriously awesome. You are nailing your style. I love the skinnys looks and teal skirt espacially.

  • replied 10 years ago

I love the one with YOUR new white jacket, and the one with the utility jacket. I can't wait for skinnies and boots weather too :)

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I think you look great in all of these!  I especially like the necklace in #2, the pointy shoes and the utility jacket.

  • Isis replied 10 years ago

Sounds like you've got the shirt-as-jacket sorted.

The rest are amazing!  I especially like #6---love the low-rise jeans and your new edgy belt!

Ami, you've found your "cool Summer day" groove!  Love your date look, your two "cool girl will l-o-n-g legs in skinnies" looks, and your twirly skirts.  Point shoes rock!

I'd sing "It's a Hard Knock Life" to the orphan, and kick her out of the closet, but I do think a floral jacket would suit you.  Keep an eye open.  I also think a woven top would make the twirly skirt outfit even fabber!

(Now I've got the whole soundtrack to "Annie" as an earworm)

What a gorgeous set of outfits. I love the versatility :-)

What stood out for me as stellar is 6/7. You look great in these skinnies plus the top and topper. The entire color scheme is fab on you. I prefer the top tucked, when compared with 3, which btw is also great.

The others are pretty as well, each in its own way. I love the girly vibe of the date outfit. also the experiment with twirly skirt with which my eye prefers the more defined waist, but mine is not so fashion-fwd view of this particular silhouette. Had a chuckle at kids' reaction at shoes, you have to listen to them - my son is very articulate when he likes or dislikes something.
