WIW: Layers

Still trying to keep up with the FABruary challenges at InsideOutStyle:
http://www.insideoutstyleblog......lenge.html

Today is layers.

Since I pretty much live in layers during the winter, I decided to try layering a little more extreme. So I layered stripes over plaid. (#1) I liked it, but then I remembered that I'd be seeing my mother this afternoon, and she would be horrified by such a combination.

So I changed into something calmer, and wore my new-to-me ombre sweater with skinny jeans (and a layered jean jacket, #2) for the afternoon. I tried to up the sass a little with my oxfords (with socks - I was too much of a wimp to go out without them).

Then it turned out that I didn't see my mother after all. Oh well.

Suggestions for improvement? Do these work? I think #2 would work better without the jacket, probably. But then it wouldn't be layers....

Cool outfits, they look great as they are! You have an adorable smile. If you want to tweak, I think #1 would work even better if the plaid shirt had a bit more white in it (does it have any?) I think your instinct is right about #2, a jacket in different color (white, black) would help break up all the blue.

You look RATE GREAT in both of these outfits.

I love them both! Yay, plaid and ombre!

I think both of these look great! You are really coming up with good combos lately!

    Thanks All!

Tanya, it does have a tiny bit of white in it - but it's barely visible, even from close. I have one with a bit more white in my "alter" bin - I'll get to that soon, and try this combo again.

Thank you Angie - that's exactly the look I was going for :)

And thank you also Rae - Plaid and ombre are two of my very favorite things. Until now, I've never had an ombre article of clothing (they seem to still be too new to be in thrift stores much), and this sweater is definitely my current favorite!

Thank you also Kate! I feel like something clicked - perhaps it was having RATE clarified for me, perhaps something else, I'm not entirely sure...

But it makes this whole process even more fun!

You know, I kind of like #2 with the existing colors. You have a lot of what might have been horizontal lines (ie, neckline, jacket, tunic, shoes), and had they all been high-contrast lines I think I might have felt like you chopped up your lovely figure needlessly. Low-contrast works better here -- to my eye, at least.

    I love ombre too :)
