WIW: mostly rumpled

I was just cropping these photos for posting and noting that I've spent most of the last week taking RATE a bit too far.  I'm dressing for summer weather still, but really wanting to bring a bit of fall colors in.  So here are my attempts.

#1 chambray and a striped tube skirt for a really hot day.

#2 my Beth-Ann Tee, starting to look a little worse for the wear, with replacement boyfriend jeans.  Does these jeans work for BF jeans?

#3 dark red with black and white.  I'm looking forward to wearing dark red a lot this fall.

#4 black dress with boots.  The boots are too big (Dr. Martens), and will be resold on ebay :(  I ended up wearing this with black sneakers instead.

#5 a new-to-me outfit: black ankle pants and a cream/brown/charcoal top.  I like this as a business-casual ensemble for the fall (or air-conditioned late summer, which is where I was that day).  I also styled my hair, for a change :)

#6  The only cool day in the mix - I'm celebrating by wearing full-length jeans (faded flares) with dark red for a dark-red light blue ensemble.  I even dug out my burgundy beetle booties - still love them (but wish they were a little comfier). They'll be half-day shoes for me, but I think they'll stay around for fall.

I like most of these outfits just fine, but I realize that I'm veering into not just RATE, but rumpled.  I'd go for a haircut, but I'm really wanting to try out shoulder-length.  I suppose that means I should try styling it while I wait for it to grow.  Suggestions?

And all suggestions and feedback on outfits are welcome too.

Lovely! For me the jeans on 2 work perfectly as boyfriends!

I was expecting an unsheveled (sp) mess but you don't look as rumpled as you make it sound.  I really like these, #1 is great!  The jeans on 2 look fine as a replacement.  Sorry the boots didn't work but thank goodness for eBay to resell.  Don't be so hard on yourself.  Oh and the hair styled day looks really nice and polished.

Where's the mess? I think you have a full sleeve of good outfits here. My favs are 1, 2 and 3. I also like #6 a lot, great proportions and colors.

Plonk! All gorgeous outfits, Amy! Sureyl the docs are too big, sorry for that, but otherwise!!! All just fab!

You look good in burgundy. Really like #5.

My favorites are 2 and 5 but I like the red on you too. The jeans in 2 definitely work as boyfriend jeans. And love your hair styled in 5 too!

So sad to hear about the docs though. I keep thinking about getting a pair, but I hear the break in period can be brutal so I've been putting it off.

I love the docs for the smile they give you! The dress with it is certainly a style I love. Your hair looks so sleek in #5--that whole outfit is very 50's--you remind me of January Jones as Mrs. Draper in pants. And that red was made for you. It makes your brown eyes so warm.

What are you talking about?  You look great.  Dark red loves you.  I'm not big on the shape of the brown stripe top for some reason, but that's the only outfit I don't love.  I think 2 is fun - what's wrong with the shirt?

You look great in the red shirt and white pants especially.

Thanks everyone!  I too like these outfits (just not my hair)  :)

Una, the top in #2 is just showing wear and tear - it's got the tiniest bit of pilling starting, and doesn't drape as nicely as it did at first (I should iron it).  Plus, I stained it when the grapes were ripe (luckily it blends in).  Basically, it doesn't look as polished as it did back a few months ago :)  I've gotten lots of wear out of it this summer, but my guess is that it'll not make it to next summer.

And Alana, I hadn't thought about the outfit in #5 having a 50s vibe, but you're right - it does.  Fun!  I thought that I looked a bit pear shaped in this outfit (I'm a rectangle), and for some reason, it's a fun deviation to me.

I loved the whole week and wouldn't change a thing. Honestly, your style has evolved so much and you have developed a knack for figuring out what flatters you.

I think your hair looks great as it is growing out. No real suggestions except to be patient and perhaps try some product to change up the look. A trim occasionally helps as you transition to longer hair...it keeps the in-between cut looking fresh.

I always think of your style as a bit more tomboy that RATE -- androgynous, rather than rough about the edges.  I see that tomboy polish in #2 and #3 particularly.  I think #4 sounds great with casual, but slightly lighter shoes, and your hair looks great in #5.

When you have time, I'd suggest a "growing out trim" for your hair.  I think reshaping can ease the transition to a longer look -- and I could really see you in a longish lob that can be styled either wavy or straight.

P.S.  My "Beth Ann tee" made the trip out west, after I repaired it's holes.  It must be retired now, however!  Still, the CPW was pretty good!

No need to be diffident about these Amy, you look attractive in every single one, by which I mean you look fresh, warm and approachable.

Amy, I was expecting something quite different based on your opening post:) I quite like all the outfits here. #5 is standout in my opinion. It's modern with classic elements and is very streamlined. I want to love #4 but I just feel the dress shape isn't quite right in this iteration. I suspect the sneakers will have looked really good with it.
