WIW: official orangesicle

It's super hot here (well, for me and here - about 97 today and humid), and I'm wearing loose baggy dresses for everything that I don't care if I look decent.

However, two such "I should look presentable" occasions occurred in the past couple days.

#1 is what I wore to church.  I figured these pants are about as close as I have to "summer" pants - they're loose-fitting and light weight.  And they worked really nicely.  The top, however, is silk, and showed every little drop of sweat...  I'm thinking it might be more of a cool-season (with a cami underneath) top, rather than a top-of-summer-heat top.  I was told that I look very tan, and that I look "official" - like I should be wearing a badge.  I'm not sure it was a compliment.   Oh well.

#2 is a copycat of #3 - nude-ish shoes, white jeans, orange top, red lip and black bag.  I'm not sure it works on me, but it was fun to try.  I wore it out on a date to a rare treat - Indian food.  Yum.

I love all feedback - especially suggestions for improvement!

Mmm, you had me at Indian food! Too bad #1 showed sweat, because the outfit is really nice - long, elegant lines. The white jeans are super nice on you, too. Really love them with the colors you chose!

    I really like #2.

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

You look so tall in 1! And I love both sets of colors on you! Indian food sounds yummy.

love the long lines, similar tones in  #1 after examining my pins I've come to realize I pin this look a lot.  Good to know about the silk for my upcoming vacay.  I think 2 looks fresh and cool.  Can you put your finger on why you don't think it works for you?

Both are fab, Ami! Love the PPL in the first pictie, those trousers are gorgeous!!!

    #2 looks very stylish imo.

#1 is WOW. Sooooo elegant. I have rediscovered one way to use my sleveless top, but this gives me extra inspiration. This blue is beautiful on you.

#2 I wore similar outfit last week - white bottoms, orange shirt, black bag. I didn't snap it, but I thought of the title "Halloween in July" :-) To me, the combination was super fun and now that I see it on you I love it even more.

Ami, I love both outfits on you. I agree with Ornella, #1 is very elegant and I love the PPL. Date night outfit is lovely. I like how you interpreted the pin.
I had a curry last night!  I love Indian food!

I like the simplicity and fit of both outfits!

    2 looks great!

I like 1 also but too bad about the sweatiness.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

Both outfits look great but I really like 2. Super cool and fresh and I don't see where you could improve, looking good :)

i think both outfits are great. but i have the same issue with silk, love it, but not for the extreme hot or very humid days.
have you tried the shoes from #1 with outfit #2?

  • Krista replied 10 years ago

Love the style of both - simple and chic in the heat! Too bad about the sweatiness in #1 but I like your idea about trying it with a cami - it might be a better summer look for days when there's no humidity.

    Wow!  Thanks you all!

In #3, her shirt has a printed back, incorporating orange, black and white and dark red - I thought that it made the outfit less disjointed.  I guess what I have going on in #2 was more of a color-block look.  And the orange shirt (it's also silk, *sigh*), was even worse on the sweat problems than the blue.  And when the spots of sweat dried, they left water marks, Gaa!

The lesson of these outfits:  silk is not a summer fabric for me :)

Thanks for liking them though!  I'm glad they work (so often, I think something works, and notice later something that was off - I'm glad that this time, it really did work)

You look great even if you felt overheated. And I would say 97 is hot pretty much anywhere! Maybe the structure of the collar in #1 is what made you look so official?

Oh, and when you said orangesicle I was expecting head to toe orange!

I've never heard an outfit being called "official" - too funny! I like the fit of those drapey trousers in outfit #1 and the outfit looks great as a whole. Too bad the top felt overly warm though.

LOVE outfit #1 - orange and white is so fantastic together and I really like your choice of footwear. The drape on that orange top is sublime.

I think people were probably reacting to blue and light grey in the first outfit. That colour combo can read "police" like. To the uninformed, ha!

Sorry the silk didn't work for you. For me, silk tops need to be worn when there is a breeze -- and the armholes need to be cut low enough. In that case, even in pretty extreme heat, they will be great. But if they are cut too close or too fitted overall, and there is no breeze, watch out!

    Love #2~

Really like both outfits.  #1 makes you look really tall!  But I am smitten with #2!  Fab ensemble!

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Suz - it was actually boob sweat that did me in for both tops.  The armholes were cut okay.

But I really think they'll be fine when I'm not outdoors or in our non-Air Conditioned car in super-hot temps :)

At least, I'm going to keep both tops for now and try them out once the heat breaks (probably September-ish).

They both look great! I especially love that orange on you - not everyone glows in orange, but you definitely do imho ... looks fantastic.
