WIW: pick-me-up and earrings

Extra tired today after an overwhelming weekend, so I decided to wear visual coffee, and went with bright colors. It worked!

Since it's "earring day" on InsideOutStyle's FABruary challenge, I wore earrings too.

Yesterday, I wore the ombre sweater and black skinnies to church. I liked the combo. For a meeting later in the day, I changed to my black boots, and felt tough in them.

Pic #5 has my new-to-me leather jacket, that was a mistake purchase. In the mirror the fit seemed good, but I'm not sure now that I see the picture. And I wish it had more interesting details. I'll keep looking, then purge this one.

Suggestions for improvements?

Aw, your first outfit is so cheerful! I think I had a striped shirt like that in the 70s that I LOVED. Not sure on the fit of the leather jacket - it looks a little big and a little dated, but it's hard to see details. It is hard to thrift leather IMHO!

#1 is so fab. This suits you so well. The colours are just lovely. I find the jacket dated but I prefer a little shape in a leather jacket. It doesn't look bad, but I don't think it's your best :)

I totally agree with you both on the leather jacket, and doubt it'll be staying long. What I want is a moto jacket, or a cropped leather jacket with fun details. I'll keep watching, and consider this a $10 lesson.

This looks like a nice classy jacket BTW - like that Jones New York style that was big in the late 90s for working women. Just too conservative and dated for your style.

You do look very cheery today! I should try this on my tired days too.

I love the ombre top. The leather jacket is pretty big on you, and looks like a men's cut. Good think it was just $10, it will do until you find a perfect one.

Just noticed that #1 isn't today's pic of the outfit - I'm wearing earrings today, and no red lips. Hmm... wonder where that pic went...

#1 is fab fab fab. The earrings are so fun. And the red lipstick really works.

    Agree about the leather jacket.

The black flats are winners in my book too.

    :)

You look just gorgeous in the bright colours! And you are seriously making me want to delve into red lipstick. I've never found a shade that works for me. I think it is becoming part of your signature look!

I like the layered sweater and chambray shirt in #1 with your fun earrings. I love the ombre sweater and black jeans in #2! You look great!

Love the color and layering in #1. And the skinnies in #3 are such an amazing silhouette on you.

BTW --- the right jacket will come your way. PPP!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Yes, you're right PPP is a real learning curve for me. I'm determined to adopt it though.

And Una, you're spot on about the jacket - it's a business women's cut, almost certainly from the late nineties.

I'm flattered that you called it "too conservative and dated" for my style - that means that I have something of a style! Yay!

#1 is super fun! So glad it cheered you up. You look fresh and lovely in it.

Yes, it is really tough to thrift leather. I think this is a bit of a boxy cut for you, from the look of it. Alas....

I don't see what's wrong with the leather jacket. It looks good in that picture. Your bright outfit is fantastic!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Denise - Thank you! As far as the jacket, I think it fits like it's intended to, but I also think it's boxier than I want a leather jacket to be.

Amiable, this fall I actually bought and returned a leather jacket that looks like a twin of yours. The one I ended up with was shorter, with moto styling, and I'm so glad I didn't keep the first! You know what you want and I think that is most of the battle.
