WIW: subdued sparkle

After dressing like a crayon most of the week, I was drawn to something more subdued for today.

But it's Sparkle Day on InsideOutStyle
( http://www.insideoutstyleblog......lenge.html)

So I decided to try out a sparkly aqua turtleneck I inherited after Christmas. The giver tole me that while the color is lovely, the metallic threads make the top unbearable to wear. So I put an undershirt with it, and had no problems (yay for non-sensitive skin!)

I'm wearing it with blue jeans for a change (boot cuts), and maroon booties, because every outfit needs a little shot of red, right?

In the pic, I don't think it works particularly well. But I'm not sure what about it doesn't work - the jacket, I guess.

And just because I tried it out, here's the same sparkly blue turtleneck with my red jeans. Doesn't really work there either - needs a scarf or something.....

Suggestions? You know I love them!

I love #1 with the blue and olive! It looks perfect. The second one seems a little bright but that could just be me. Others on the forum are much better at color than I am.

Oh, I agree with you Sara - I didn't wear it, just thought I'd post the pic because I tried it on :)

#1 is fab! This is such a great look on you - and your hair is adorable! I might add one more item to it to make it look a little more "finished." - I'd probably try a long pendant necklace first and see how that looks - you could also try a stack of bracelets, a large ring, or maybe even a brooch on the jacket??? Just experiment and have fun - but like I said, this is a great look on you - and those maroon booties are very cool.

I think it's the proportions in #2 that are off. The sweater seems to be too short and too body con for the pants. I think the color combination is fun though - and if the proportions were right, I'd try to find a patterned scarf to wear with it that had both the blue and the red in it - that would tie it all together!

I like both ways, actually. The red and blue together is so happy, and I don't dislike the proportions. What kinds of shoes would you wear with these? Some Cons or ballet flats might look cute.

Thanks Denise and Marley - I do think the aqua and red are too body-con together for me right now - I feel like it emphasizes where I'm thick (I am doing the stretch you prescribed Denise!)

And thank you for the shoe suggestion Denise - I tried on the red jeans with half a million (or so) tops, and struggled a lot with finding reasonable shoe combos. I have leopard loafers that might work, or some black ballet flats that I might try (they're begging for me to paint them a metallic cap toe. Must get some paint!)

I love #1. I think the olive and the undershirt tone it down and make it a very sleek look. That blue next to your face is really flattering with your coloring.
I'm on the fence about #2. It does not quite do you justice. I think the sweater is too short for those jeans. Could you try the undershirt with that to see how it looks?

I love the colors in 1! I feel like the jacket would look better with skinnies... But then I have been struggling to concoct bootcut outfits. 2 is great as a strong and simple look but you could also try a pendant necklace with it. ;-)

1 as is rocks! I love how the blue sparkle works with the olive jacket a really dressy/casual mix. #2 i think would look great with your black blazer.

Love the color on you and #1 looks great! I think it is too short to wear untucked with the red jeans, but maybe a semi-tuck?

I LOVE #1! What about it do you not like! I like the pairing of the tight, bright sweater with the loose jacket and faded jeans. The bit of burgundy in the shoes is nice, too.

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

I like #1 too, but the jacket seemed too floppy to me. It actually didn't end up getting worn very long, because I dipped the sleeve in maple syrup :(

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

Hm, well it doesn't look floppy in the photo, FWIW. I would suggest a wide belt over the whole thing, but I think that would ruin the casual vibe which I really like about the outfit.

ETA, real maple syrup, I'm assuming?...LOL...
