WIW: summer frumps

Here's a few WIWs from the past few days.  I've been having frumpiness issues - everything I try looks frumpy.  So I keep changing.  It's fun purging at least :)

#1 worn out on a date with my hubby.  I'm wearing the white jeans a bit higher than usual, and rolled.  I have a vacation-induced pot belly too.

#2 a shirt that came out of probation today to get worn - it was nice and easy breezy.  I think it'll stay for a little while longer.

#3 T-shirt and maxi-skirt. It may as well be pajamas....

#4 Same Tee as #3 but with culottes.  Somehow these culottes are so frumpy they're cool to me, and I like them.  Not to mention they're so comfy.  Perhaps I should just save them for working out or sleeping?

#1 is really cute. I say too much fabric in #3 & 4.

#1 is great, #2 is good, but I'll be frank - I think the T in 3/4 can go, it is not good enough for you. In addition to being too big/shapeless, is it a bit unevenly faded? That could be the camera.

#1 and #2 are great! They don't look frumpy to me at all. You rock your white jeans! Glad you were reunited with them after your trip :)

Another big thumbs up for #1!  The column of white is fab, and actually quite slimming.  #2 is good, too.  I think the modern color an playfulness in the shoes kicks it up a notch.  #3 & 4:  I like the skirts, try with a little more shape and structure in the tops, perhaps, and you're good to go.

I know about Summer dressing --- so much harder to be ready for my real life and still feel fab! Unlike you, I don't have that California glow!

I think you look stunning in #1 and I like #2 as well.

I agree with you - those cullottes are so frumpy that they are cool!  I'd wear them with a more structured top and enjoy!  Also, love #1 - you look great in those white jeans and I like the length of the cuffs!  The tee in #3 and 4 perhaps could easily be converted to pj's?

The first outfit looks great with no frump at all. Outfit #2 looks like something cool for hot days.

You look fab in #1 and #2 looks like an easy breezy go to for a hot summer's day.
The volume on volume of #3&4 is swamping your figure. Partnering one voluminous item with a trim top or bottom might give a better line, eg, I can see the culottes working well with the white top from #1.

Ami, I think you look sensational in #1 and the furthest thing from frumpy. #2 is a good casual at home outfit!

But I hear you about summer dressing. This is my constant nemesis for the next few months. I go around looking basically like you look in #2. And there is nothing wrong with it, and it's practical for my life. But it feels...frumptastic! I have been playing with some different silhouettes in the hopes of finding a remedy. I'll try to post outfits in the next few weeks and maybe we can brainstorm together.

You know I like the tee in 3 and 4. Try it with skinny jeans and the half tuck.
I also like the long skirt and think it would be great with something more fitted.

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

I agree, 1 and 2 are great!  If the plaid shirt had less of a straight hemline it would be even better. A rounded shirttail hem I think. Or semi-tuck.

    Thanks All!

Suz - yes, I think I'm just wanting more variety (or better options for the current) in my summer silhouettes.  And all my summer clothes are pre-ylf.  I'm much pickier now :)  But it's fun to see the progress I've made when I try on clothes and can pinpoint why I don't like it!

I agree with Rachy, too much fabric in 3 and 4. 1 and 2 are fab though!

  • Helena replied 10 years ago

Agree with the comments that just a bit of remixing will make 3 and 4 work - more fitted tanks with the bottoms, or slim pants and a 1/2 tuck with the tee. Summer dressing is tricky!! Love look #1 - sleek and classic :)

    i love #1...that is all!

ok...there's more, i also like #3 with the maxi-ish look.  i really like this.  so easy and casual and says summer's here to me.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

#1 and #2 are great, but I think the tee in #3 and #4 can go - it looks too big. I like the maxi skirt - maybe wear it with a more structured top. As for the culottes in #4, I'd also like to see them with a structured top - if they don't work with that, then perhaps keep them for around the house wear.

You're looking well pulled together in your summer outfits.  I'm most excited about your sandals in #1 -- where did you buy them?  I worn the same sandals and finally wore them out beyond repair and they are my all-time favorites! Mine were from Bass but I've not been able to find them anywhere now.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Gingko - the sandals are Born, but I got them in a clothing giveaway, so I'm sure they're quite old.  I like them too!  :)

Thanks, Amiable -- maybe I'll get lucky and come across a pair!
