WIW: summer patterns

Summer is ending, and even though it's still getting up to 90 degrees, the evenings and mornings are gloriously cool.

Here's a few late-summer outfits.  I realized that my summer style almost always involved a pattern this summer.  Stripes and tribal prints got the most play.  Here's some stripes (and a check and leopard print included for fun).

Soon I need to cull my wardrobe of the worn out items and make space for fall/winter clothing.  All comments - especially suggestions for improvement - are welcome.

Cuteness! I especially like you in the shoes and jacket in photo No. 2 (bonus points for the yellow accessories) -- what do you think about cropping the jeans a bit to show some ankle? You also look great in the top in No. 4. I think the top and bottom in photo 3 would each look better worn with a closer-fitting piece, rather than together.

Love all of #4! Very crisp. Also the jeans in #2 are a nice fit. I might differ from sylvie55 on #3--I like those proportions together, though I myself couldn't pull the combo off as well as you. :)

I love the pops of yellow in pic #2. Every outfit looks good, though.

Cute outfits -- all of them. You look fabulous in prints, as well as in bright color. I especially love #2 (great pops of yellow), #3 (adorable hat!) and #4 (blouse has a lovely, soft feminine drape).

Amy, your summer style is great! You have a more polished look in 2 and 4, and you wear both of these outfits so, so well! I also like your more laid-back style, especially the culottes and sneakers with that fun hat! I like your hairstyle, too.

  • Nebraskim replied 7 years ago

Agree with Firecracker -- looks 2 and 4 are so polished. I love how your summer style has matured into a professional look that is approachable and fun. Your hair cut and color are great for you. Enjoy the coming fall cool down.

I also agree with Firecracker and with Nebraskim on 2 and 4 being favorites. I also think that 3 is fun. Have you worn the striped top in 1 with the pink pants in 5?

  • catgirl replied 7 years ago

Wow, 2 and 4 are amazing! You look so tall and willowy!

  • Sara L. replied 7 years ago

Wow, your style seems so effortless in these photos!  I love the pop of yellow in #2, the shoes in #1, the cute hat and sneakers in #3, the top in #4 and the color combo and shoes in #5.  Great week for you.

Agreeing with others - #2 and #4 are standouts, really fantastic outfits on you Amy!

Amy, I don't think you have ever look better, all this outfit are amazing.  #2 and #4 are out of this world, and #3 is super trendy.  Stripes really suit you.

    Thanks you all!

I feel like my wardrobe is working well for me right now - I'm not overwhelmed by how many clothes I have, but I have enough variety to enjoy it.  I have a better idea than ever on what I like and don't, and while there's still plenty of mis-steps and "don't care" type days, I feel like I know how to look like I want to when I do care.

I'm eagerly studying the fall trends post though, and thinking I'll be brightening up my winter wardrobe.  Shopping excursion is coming next week....

I love #2 the best, especially yellow bag. so polished love #4 also.

  • pil replied 7 years ago

I do love stripes, despite that #4 is outstanding!

  • Lisa replied 7 years ago

A great collection of summer outfits.  I especially like the green shorts paired with stripes.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

Your boldly toned short hair looks fab, and #3 steals the show. Lovely to see you post again, Amy.

  • skylurker replied 7 years ago

They're all great. I like the colours of your shorts and chinos. The smart casual looks #2 and #4 are elegant. My favourite is #3, because it's stylish but also looks the most personal.

Wait --- did I miss a haircut post?

Your hair looks great -- love the way you play with length to give yourself some variety.

You look terrific in shorts.  The olive color with the french stripe gives it a vaguely Euro vacation vibe.  I'm loving the strappy shoes with leather in #2 also, and the updated boho in 4!

FWIW -- I think patterns often take the place of a third piece in warmer weather.  They also hide dirt and perspiration, which is why I love them mightily!

Thanks for the compliments and comments ladies!  You all are terrific!

It's true that I'm enjoying playing with my hair.  I spent a while trying to find the perfect hairstyle that I'd want to keep forever, and just when I thought I'd found it, my husband commented that he really liked that I changed my hair frequently and thought I was due to go short again.  So that sealed the deal.  I get to change my hair as often as I wish!  :)  (I'm scheduled for another cut this week, but just going to get a trim, I think).

I'm in the middle of my post-summer cull now, and feeling like I learned a lot, and wore out most of my summer clothes - success!
