WIW: vaguely inspired by Marc

I realize that seeing the inspiration is a long shot (and that the result here doesn't actually work that well, and definitely isn't photographing very well).  But when I was getting dressed this morning, it really was Angie's link to the Marc Jacobs show that inspired me.  He seemed to have a lot of boxy short sleeves over patterned (or bright) long sleeves, with narrow pants and snow boots.

I didn't want to wear snow boots for the day, but liked the idea of a boxy sweater over a patterned long sleeve top.  So I tried it with this sweater that's both cropped and boxy.  I'm kinda thinking the sleeve length of the cropped boxy sweater doesn't work...

What are your thoughts?

Fun! (Although I think the snow boots make it -- you gotta wear those, seriously!) ;)

It looks better when your arms are out to the sides. It may not be the length of the sleeves so much as the crisp angle on the MJ vs. yours.

I know - I just can't pull off snowboots on the treadmill for working, and was too lazy to put them on just for the pic :)  If I leave the house today, I'll put on boots.

The MJ has a lot more structure, doesn't it - between the crisp angles and the little-bit shorter sleeves.  I'll have to think about how to make that happen if/when I try this silhouette again.

I really, really like this! YLF.

I like the idea of the solid over the stripe. Usually the stripe goes over the solid. I think that's worth playing around with some more. Maybe boots instead of clogs? Or are those clogs?

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

They may as well be clogs (they're Dansko's), but no, they have a back.  I think that makes them not a clog?

And yep - I think it needs boots, and I think I'm going to cut the sleeves off of the sweater...

Are you going to make a vest?

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

It's pretty wide - cutting off the sleeves will end up something like cap sleeves, I'm guessing.

I like how you have interpreted this. I wonder if the different neckline makes it feel a bit off for you?

Love the way you layered the two tops, Amy. I have missed you on YLF. xo

Thanks Angie!  I managed to catch up on my WIWs last night - it has been too long since I was on top of posting :)

    Works really well!

I've missed your WIWs too. I think it works and love the idea. What Suz said about the sleeves. The cropped sweater could be even a little more cropped to my eye, but only if you want to tweak it more.

I think this look has great possibilities!  I do think the difference is in the crisp, stiffer short sleeves.  Maybe a retro jersey on top?  You know, from a local baseball team?
