WIW: Winter's last harrah

While Spring seems like an eternity in coming, I decided to follow Jill from goodlifeforless.blogspot.com's lead and re-enjoy some of my favorites from winter, and some things I wish I'd worn more.

And since it's still frigid and I'm sooo cold, I'm piling on the layers.

#1-2 sparkly aqua sweater with olive pants. I'd wanted to wear both of these piece more. So I put them with the leopard belt and burgundy boots. I was cold so I added the red jacket - it doesn't quite bookend the shoes, since they're not bright enough. And I think the combination - red, green, blue and leopard might be a bit ALGO.

#3-4 red jeans with brown. I loved my red-brown outfit from a few weeks ago so much that I tried it again. This time with a longer brown short-sleeved sweater over the long-sleeved one. (It was warmer that way). I'm wearing the leopard belt again, but I see from the pics that my semi-tuck isn't high enough in the front to show it off.

I'm also wearing my super-old tall brown boots with the wobbly heels. My ankles are getting stronger, and I'm not wobbling in them as badly as I used to. I think I'll keep these for a while yet. However, the longer short-sleeved sweater is pilly, and I think it'll get tossed unless a shaving rescues it.

I think I'll keep this up the rest of the week - hold off on my spring items in favor of giving the winter ones a final loving.

All feedback and suggestions welcome!

What a great idea. And the bright colours really do perk a person up. I LOVE you in 3/4. And I love your little accessory, too!

Hello amiable, don't you look cheerful with your son and that smile.

I really adore your outfit in 3-4, the red-brown is a great color combo on you.

However, I'm not really a big fan of the colors in 1-2. It's a bit much on my eyes :).

Your 3/4 is brilliant, such a modern look. The pants are a great fit and the layering with the sweater and scarf is excellent. One of my favourites for you. I'm unsure about 1/2, perhaps it is the colours or something may be a bit off with the tuck. I am not a tucking expert by any stretch though. My confusion was very evident on my WIW yesterday. :)

I love the direction your style is taking you. And I look forward to seeing your evolution continue through the spring and summer!

    3/4 look great to me.

1/2 I like the idea but I don't think the relative saturations are balanced enough. Or they are too close and need to be rejigged in order to make the disparity intentional instead of seeming accidental.

Thanks all! I dont' think the red-green-blue ALGO outfit worked very well either. But it doesn't bother me :) I'm experimenting and learning - I should expect a fairly high failure rate, right?

I do enjoy 3/4 also - not quite as well as the first version of it (here), I don't think, but it's warmer too :)

I absolutely love 3 and 4, the layering is so fun and I really like the colors together!

    Amiable,

I love the black and red outfit. You look sooo stylish

The blue sweater seemed big? can that be right. It seemed to overwhelm you.

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Gee, I liked the colors in 1-2!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

    Thanks rachy!

Last time I wore aqua and olive together, I had a big debate with myself and commenters on whether the colors went together (I thought they didn't so much, commenters set me straight). Now I like the color combo - I wonder if adding red did me in? Or maybe the shapes don't play well together - that's more likely it.

    :)

Your body is just made for pants, I've yet to see you in an ill fitting pair. I think it's the shape of the top in 1 that is throwing you off. Agreeing with the others on 3/4, love it. I always smile when I see your little guy in the pics with you, such a sweetie.
    Your hair looks amazing!

Thanks Tina! I do have a good "pants" body - as long as they're long enough and straight through the waist and hips, they work for me. It's a good thing too, because I can't make a skirt work to save my life. :)

What a great idea to give winter a colorful sendoff. I think the red, turquoise and olive work as a color combination, in fact red and turquoise is my favorite, especially with cobalt or navy added. Your olive doesn't look as saturated as the other colors. A deeper or purer (less grey) olive might work even better. The shapes may be the problem.
You look like such a great mom having fun with her little boy. He looks like he loves his puppies. You look superfab in the second outfit.

LOVE you in those red skinnies (and the little mister looks pretty great too).

I like the mix of colors in 1/2. I think it's the bulk of the turtleneck that's making this an "almost, not quite" You're absolutely right, though, about being bold and experimenting! We can't stop having fun with fashion!
