WIW: with no time to think

I'm MIA for the past couple of days, and more of the same to come  two weeks away from the big conference of the year and work is crazy.

And I don't even know what to wear for the conference!  (A work shirt, duh...I'll probably post a WTW for that conference next week....)

So here's what I've worn the past few days.  I'm still awaiting pics from the Lion King with my husband's camera, so you'll have to wait for those.  It was truly excellent.

#1 Worn for Good Friday service
#2 Worn thrift-store shopping.  I don't think it's a good combo (olive shirt, striped topper, blue jeans
#3 Black turtleneck with hounds tooth jacket and blue jeans.  I liked the idea better than the implementation.
#4 Red jeans, blue jean top.
#5 Tried out a bright pink/orange top.  I don't think I really like it much - it seems garish.  Am I out of my mind?
#6 Easter Sunday with my girls.
#7 Easter Sunday to church.  I had to change shoes later because these ones cut into my feet.  I changed to my gray booties, which my husband preferred, but I didn't get a pic in them.
#8 Worn during the day Good Friday, for a quick change into the church outfit.
#9 Worn today.  I feel like it's TMGO with the scarf, but it's keeping my neck cozy and warm.  I think I need some spring scarves or something.  I doubt this is the only thing off about the outfit, but I can't put my finger on what else.

Comments and suggestions more than welcome!  I feel like I've been missing my groove lately and just look weird.

I quite like 9 on you! Did you try the shirt semi-tucked or untucked?
Your Easter look is very nice too! I can't believe it was warm enough for sandals....I wish!

I don't think any of these are horrible...what is it you don't like about them?

Hard to pick a favourite, there are so many great combos.  Your hair is looking particularly breezy and modern in these pics.

    # 4, #5' and # 9 are tops for me.  You sure do rock a coloured jean.

I think I remember that pink/orange shirt. I think it's a bit much with the red jeans, would like to see it with denim, maybe open with a white t and scrunched sleeves. That would break up the (very pretty) pattern a bit.
Some great outfits here. Number 8 seems a little plain for you these days, maybe a scarf would help?

I don't think you look weird at all Amy, it could just be that you are getting a better idea of what fits/flatters you so you are able to be more discerning. This is a Good Thing! Question! Are you wearing boots/booties in #2? I'd like to see a detail of those if so. I think that combo is fine, though if you want a little more structure a woven top as the lower layer would probably make you feel a bit more crisp. For #4, the top either tucked or longer would be enough to balance the proportions there. Love #4 and #7! I don't find #5 garish (and quite like it!), but you know the type of colorful brights I like to wear so take that for what it's worth ;) #8 is clean and minimal lovely, especially like how you're holding your purse (very Street Style Photo ^^). #9 looks great, but I bet a light colored belt would fix this outfit right up for you.

I really like #9 and don't think the scarf is too much.  You make me want to go hunt down green jeans to copy this.  I also especially like 1, your Easter outfit,  4 & 8, but they all look good.

Well it looks like you got your groove back, girlfriend! You look fab in all of these. My fav is #3, love the jacket.
  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago
My favourite is #9 too - maybe without the scarf.
  • pil replied 10 years ago
4, 7 and 9 are my favorites. I really like the quietness of the gray top with your floral jacket.

I love #9, it's my favourite. Also, the red skinnies look really great on you. I know what you mean about #5, maybe a neutral coloured top?

My favorites are #4,#8 and #9 but seeing you with a sampling of your kids is the most fun! How old are the girls?

Looking really cute. No schlump (which I'm suffering from today).

I was just thinking I like your tops on you on the more fitted, less boxy side. And also a little on the long side.

Fabulous choice for Good Friday -- this kind of blouse has a perfect sleeve for flute playing, too.  I also think your Easter outfit is fresh and celebratory, while still relaxed.

The only ones that look like you chose quickly are 4 and 8, but they both fit well and are quite put together, really quite pleasing.

Love the sweater in #2, and I think the combination in #5 is all about how you feel --- some people like the "pow," other people dislike grabbing so much attention.

I really like #9, although I'd rather see the sleeves below the elbow.

The fact that you do so well running on "auto-pilot" says alot about your growing sense of style.  Brava!

These all look so good, bt I am especially partial to #7 and #8!  Cute family shot. :)

    Wow - Thanks you all!

Kate - I tried the shirt in #9 both untucked and semitucked, but it's exactly the same length as the jacket and I was afraid that the hems competed.  And I wanted to show off my off-center belt wearing :P

Carla - Thanks for the compliment on my hair - I can't decide what to do with it, so I've been especially lazy on it lately.

Jules - you do remember that shirt!  I'll style it like you've suggested - thank you!

Aida - the shoes in #2 are perforated canvas oxfords - also seen here.  I haven't found a light belt yet - I think I'm not sure on what color/style will be right.  But I'm hoping I'll know the right one when I see it :)

    Thank Joy, Karie and Caro.

Pil, that was my favorite thing about my Easter outfit too - the quietness of the gray top.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Hedgie!

Shevia, my girls are almost 9 and 7.

Me too Rachy - I have a really hard time finding tops that are long enough.

    Thanks you all!

I think you're being too hard on yourself.  These are all good outfits.  I especially like your Easter outfit.  I think #8 just needs a necklace or scarf to spiff it up.  I like the scarf and the striped top in #9 and don't find it overly busy.
  • Angie replied 10 years ago
I am mesmerized by #5 and #9! WOW. Those are 11 out of 10! Cute cherubs too :)

    Good luck at the conference.
  • amiable replied 10 years ago
And Thanks for all the love on #9.  I felt like I kept adding pieces haphazardly - first the jacket for some saturated color near my face, then the scarf for warmth... And the scarf really didn't match anything...  It just felt like a lot going on.
  • amiable replied 10 years ago
And Cross-posted - Thanks Sara and Angie!
  • amiable replied 10 years ago
Just noticed that I cross-posted with Beth-Ann and Thistle too - thanks to you both!

I think my auto-pilot success is largely due to purging quickly things that don't fit and/or aren't flattering.  It makes it so that first thing I pull out at least has some potential.  The only ones that weren't spur-of-the-moment outfits are #1 and #6-7.  And you all helped choose those :)
  • catgirl replied 10 years ago
I think Aida has some fantastic advice.  You look very presentable in all of these, though - like "if someone comes to the door I can open it proudly" kind of presentable.  I like your hair in 1,4, 5, 6 and 7 whatever you did with it (or didn't!)!
  • Deborah replied 10 years ago
Wow Amy, you have not put a foot wrong.  Great set of outfits.  I must say the floral jacket does look good.  Scrunching the sleeves just amps up the style quotient and creates a really modern feel and look.  All gorgeous.
  • Suz replied 10 years ago
Ami, all I can see is how much your style has developed since you joined the forum and how the little touches that make a difference are coming through. Like the pop of white or light at the collar to bookend the lighter shoes, or the fun slouchy fit of those green jeans in #9!! You look fab.

    Good luck at the conference!

Amiable, I really like 4, 5, 7 and 9 and what a precious family you have!  Are you kidding!  I love 5, because it reminds me, in the best possible way and one I would recreate in a hot second, like Austin Powers.  I love the '60s vibe and paisley and you make it fresh with these "powerful" colors.

Plus, you've shown me another way to wear my green skinnies as in #9!  Excellent.
  • amiable replied 10 years ago
    Wow!  Thanks you all!

Deborah - your approval of the jacket makes my day. Thank you!  I have some more ideas for how to wear it.

Una - Thanks for the thoughts on my hair - I'll keep doing it that way for now :)

Suz  - Thanks so much.  I must admit, I'm having a great time grown and learning in style.  I'm glad that most of my clothes are super cheap though - I'm going through them like water!

Vicki - Austin Powers!  Why didn't I think of that!  I love sixties too, but I feel so conspicuous in them.  I'm still working up to wearing this level of boldness in public!

I'm impressed by how much your style has evolved since I saw your first posts a few months ago. You are a pretty lady, Amiable! My fav today, among several good ones, is #9. Another scarf could take it up even more, but it is fine as it is, too.
