WIWing: Hoodie under a blazer (ETA: tweaks)

I read the blog post first thing this morning, commented that I liked the look but didn't have a hoodie, then went out for a little run.  When I returned, I hung up my hoodie, and thought - oh! wait....

So I had to try it out.  What do you think?

(Tried out with two jackets - I think the longer is better, right?)

I do think the combo is fun!

Bonus pic of WIW Saturday for a jam-making marathon.  Finished most of this season's fruit, and verified that my new workout/running shoes are comfy over a long time standing and walking.

Update: After reading your comments, I made a few tweaks.  Here's the new pics and what I'm now wearing :)  Better?

I love this! You have nailed Angie's formula spot on! Fun and terrific look, especially with the formal black jacket over the deep burgundy. SO fab!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Oh my!  I had to log in to see this one!  You guys are super quick in assembling an outfit :D  And you have rocked that one!  Love it!

And I love your sneaks in the last pic!  You sure looked yummier than the jam on the day!  A jam making marathon?  Life is so much more interesting elsewhere!

ETA: I like it better with a longer jacket.

  • El Cee replied 10 years ago

Cute! Yes... it IS a fun combo. And I agree with you that your longer jacket seems to work best here. Jam making? Yummy, yum yum. You are making me hungry.

  • Cindy replied 10 years ago

Looks good! I actually prefer the shorter jacket though I can't say why.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

How clever you are, canning mama!

I like with the longer jacket, and I'd suggest pairing with either black boots, or, even better, cons (preferably matched, lol).  Also, what about unzipping the neck just a couple of inches for a slight v?

This would be great for a homeschool group outing!

Oh -- and kudos to you for
    1.  Running
    2.  Putting up produce!

What Beth Ann said! Great interpretation and this looks like something you could easily wear in daily life!

  • Meegs replied 10 years ago

So cute! I was already on board with the whole blazer-hoodie idea, but you've made me even more excited!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

This is fab and seems right up your alley stylewise. Love those booties! I want to try this formula.

  • Mrs Moo replied 10 years ago

Awesome to see the first WIW to try this out :) I think this looks great, especially with the rolled jeans and boots!
I do this all the time with a tweed blazer, a striped blazer and a leather one. If I wear distressed/loose jeans I stick to sleek ankle boots/heels for the contrast and if I wear clean cut skinnies I usually stick to a more casual brogue/converse.

I hope more people give this a try...

Looks good!  I'm so happy you tried out this look.  I was wondering what it would look like in real life.  I like the red hoodie with the longer black jacket.

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

i think i actualy prefer the short jacket...i love the look from the back! i agree with beth ann, i'd love to see it unzipped a smidge, maybe with a tee under it to match the booties or the blazer.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

Fab job! I really like it with both blazers and with the burgundy (?) booties (which are lovely). Had to smile about the "hoodie realization" :-)

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

Wonderful, nice to see the formula in action. Not sure if I own a hoodie thin enough to try this look...

  • replied 10 years ago

    What Beth Ann said!

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Looking good - I like your rolled pants with the booties too. What I want to know is why your apron is still clean?

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

I love the hoodie and a blazer look. I like your rust and black, and the hoodie not tucked.

    This is my take:

SO FAB!  I prefer the longer jacket, but they are both pretty darned fab!  And I love your jam-making outfit, too!  :)

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Thanks for all the suggestions - I've made a few tweaks in response to them, and will post updated pics in a couple of hours :)

Rachy - you're so ahead of the fashion curve!

Pil - my apron is far from clean - but it has lots of spots in the pattern that are just about the same size as jam spots.  And I took this pic before starting the jam in the morning :)

I can see you really rocking the hoodie-under-blazer formula Amy. This is a great first go and I love many of the suggestions. Looking forward to seeing more.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

    Looks great :)

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Okay, finally got new pics with my tweaks.  Is this better?  Does it work well?  Sorry for the not-so-great lighting.  I should have gone outside.

I think I'll edit the top pics too, so that people don't have to scroll all the way down here to see these.

You did a great job of putting Angie's blog post to work right away. What a fun combo, and you look fab wearing it. And now I'm hungry, so I'm off to eat...I suddenly have a craving for bread and jam...

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

Yes! I love it with the hoodie "unzipped" a little more and the jeans tucked into the black boots. How do you feel about it, Amy, is it something you can see yourself wearing regularly from now on? (hope so, it looks great on you)

  • replied 10 years ago

Especially love the half-tucked hoodie and the burgundy booties.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Yes, Inge - it's really grown on me through the day!  I'm hoping to find another hoodie soon to try it again. :)

  • ATLynn replied 10 years ago

I love seeing this in real world action.   Looks great!

  • JG replied 10 years ago

Trying to simplify my wardrobe and, having read several "age appropriate? " threads, I recently decided: no more hoodies. Then saw your first pic. Yep, went out and bought a hoodie!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

I like it with the red booties - but agree that I think it is better with the hoodie a bit unzipped. So you went for a little run between working, homeschooling, harvesting and mothering 5 kids, did you? Goodness Amy!

  • Mia replied 10 years ago

This is great on you.  You look put together and totally comfortable.  A winner.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

It was just a half-hour.  I usually work out a half-hour in the morning, I just decided to do it outside this morning rather than inside with a youtube video.  So I wore a hoodie, since it's chilly.  Shoulda worn a hat - my ears were still cold.

  • replied 10 years ago

What a cute look! It really suits you. I like both jackets and the jeans tucked into your boots. I'll bet your jam is delicious!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

This is a really cute look on you and seems like it would be great for a MOTG.

  • Michelle replied 10 years ago

Looks like a great MOTG casual outfit. Love the red hoodie!
