WWW: Travel capsule

In a few days, I leave for two weeks on business (to France - across the ocean for me).  The dress code will be smart casual (everyone will be in jeans, but I'm the only female, and I don't want to look sloppy).

I'm facing a similar challenge to the one LisaP wrote about a couple of weeks ago - my weight is higher than I'm comfortable with it being, and as a consequence, I don't like the way my clothes fit.  This makes choosing a travel capsule more challenging, because I'm hoping that the clothes I take fit well enough that I can feel confident, rather than oversized, in them.

Here's what I think I'm taking:
Bottoms:
2 pair black skinny jeans (one cropped, one full length)
1 pair cropped white skinny jeans
Possibly my blue cropped flared jeans (shown in pic #9 - should they come along?  They're comfy enough to sleep on the plane in, so they're a serious contender)

Top possibilities:
Navy silk sleeveless shirt ( pic #1)
turquoise pattern shirt (pic #2)
dark grey heathered sweater (pic #3 )
light grey

heathered

short-sleeved sweater (too similar to darker one?) (pic #4)
Turquoise blouse (pic #5)
hot pink sweater (pic #6)
cream/black/tan blouse (pic #7)
Black asymmetrical sweater (pic #8) (Should I take the pink polka-dot pants too?  I kinda don't think so)

Toppers (not shown):
black jacket (in finds, embroidered with company logo)
black cardigan (in finds, embroidered with company logo).
Company logo is silver, blue and green

Shoes:
black loafers (not shown in any pictures)
possibly black pumps (shown, are they frumpy?)
possibly black boots (in pic #8 and #9) or another shoe.  I haven't decided yet.

Here are pictures of the outfits (with my black spiegel jacket standing in for the toppers, which will be arriving to me tomorrow).    I'd love your suggestions on which tops to take.

First of all I love your hair! I have not seen it before, looks great!
Now on the travel capsule. The first thing which comes to mind - it is still winter, but your capsule looks more advanced towards spring. Are you sure you will not get cold? For example cropped skinny jeans look good with these pumps but may be cold. Are you going to wear knee highs with them?
I like most of the tops, except #7. Love that you are taking white jeans! I think red polka dot ones may be too much though :-)

For the footwear: I think pumps look good with cropped jeans. Loafers may work well, need to see them. I would also take boots or booties in addition to shoes.
If these jeans are so comfortable then take them. You can travel in them and maybe wear them for sightseeing (I hope you can fit some in:-) )
Don't forget a scarf (or several) and a trench or another outerwear (I don't see them mentioned).
Lucky you - 2 weeks in France for work! Have fun!

    Thank you Svetlana!

I did forget to mention that I'm taking my purple coat. (I'll post a picture tomorrow, with my loafers too) The forecast is in the low 60s F for the days that I'm there (I'll be in the south of France), and with my jacket or cardigan, I think I'll be warm enough with cropped pants.

I'll also take a few necklaces and at least one scarf (maybe 2 or 3 if I can choose which ones).  I'll take the boots if I succeed in getting them glued in time (the sole is separating).

These jeans are my only blue ones that both fit and aren't distressed.  They're not my favorite shape because I don't find them flattering.  But they are comfy....

I think all the tops could work, except I'm not sure on the fit of the red one in 6. I don't know what the weather will be like so I had similar questions to Sveta. Your outfit in 1 looks elegant to me. Have a fun trip!

Don't forget that mornings and evening maybe still cold - believe me, you will be glad you have a coat.  As for the cropped pants - make sure you have sheer knee highs with you, they can make all the difference in keeping you warm.
As for the scarves - you can buy some there. When I was in Paris 5 years ago I brought back 5!
Jeans look good and they are current. I was wearing wide cropped jeans with boots at the market last fall and met there my friend who just returned from France. She told me that I look like I am from Paris because everybody was wearing cropped jeans with boots there :-)

Congratulations on an exciting trip! Like tops 1,3,5,7 best for this trip. Take tops that you can layer if it is cold. Thanks the bottoms except the pink one. Be sure that all footwear is comfortable for lots of walking . Scarves are perfect for changing the look of an outfit. Have a wonderful time!

I like 1, 3, 6 & 8. I think the booties and pumps, although in my line, I'd personally take booties and loafers. I don't know that it will be a warm 60 this time of year.

Agreeing with Sveta that your hair looks fabulous!  Favourite tops are 1, 3, 5 and 7.
I would definitely take boots, and also your comfy jeans for the flight.
    Have a good trip.

Killer hair, and you are SORTED.

    2,3,5,6 and 8.

I like all of the tops except 4. I echo others suggests to pack layers as I'm concerned about I'm concerned about being warm enough. Try a camisole under the blouses and make sure all the blouses work with the toppers. Scarves will also help.

I love the dimension that your hair adds to your style! Very fun and makes you look intriguing!

I think you all are right about the weather.  It's been in the 70s here the past couple of weeks, and I forgot that it's still winter.  I'll add another sweater if I can find one that I don't mind it's fit :)  Perhaps more pictures soon.

(I also glued my boots this morning.  If it holds, they'll go along too.)

Thank you all (and also for your tips on LisaP's thread, which helped me a lot in planning).

You hair is looking fabulous, Ami!  I think the pumps work well for your trip, along with your boots for days when you need more warmth.  Yes to taking along some accessories, too!

I think you're looking great.  Say hello to France for me!

You look great Amy! I would do a double check with the toppers, but the only one I would tend to leave out right now is #7. Hope you will have a chance to have some fun!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

You look absolutely amazing, Amy. And you will fit right in with those chic Frenchwomen! This seems to be a great capsule though I echo Sveta that you will need footwear and hose for colder morning and evening and also I'll remind that the weather can be damp, so the temps will feel much colder if you are not used to this.

Everything looks lovely! My DH is leaving for a business trip to France soon. He could learn some lessons from you! Have a great time!
