Era Challenge: 80s

Taking a break from the 70s today!

I associate the 80s with black and white, leggings, colorblocking, and neon colors.  I also fondly remember velour fabrics - still a favorite of mine.   I'm not sure if colorblocking is actually an 80s thing, but my velour shirt is black and white color blocked, and I'm pretty sure is an actual 80s top.

So here's my tribute - with 90s bedhead hair rather than the big hair of the era, and no makeup too.  I'm actually wearing #3 today, because, well, I like it :)

#1 - leggings (skirted) with velour color-blocked top.
#2 - same skirted leggings with my closest to neon yellow.  High contrast tank top for effect.
#3 - velour color-blocked top with as close as I have to neon pink cropped pants.

I feel like all of these are border-line wearable today - are they?  And are they true to the 80s also?

Oh they all look great on you!  I think they are all wearable today.  I associate color-blocking and neons/pastels with the eighties too.   These also seem like a silhouette that works with your shape very well too.  I think it's because there is structure in the narrow leggings and pants --- and the ankles and pushed up sleeves show skin.   Seems less RATE and swallowing you up than some of the 70's looks -- which were fun, but a lot of pants leg ;) .

Thanks rabbit - and I agree - I like bootcuts, but especially with tops tucked in, it felt old quickly  (I almost always prefer a longer top), and like a whole lotta pants.  I'm looking forward to my narrower pants getting wear after a week of bootcuts and flares :)

YES. #1 has  fun '80s feel. Nicely done, Amy.

    *passing the shoulder pads*

And I adore #3 on you. What a super 2015 look. Wear it and enjoy.

Ahh - thanks for the shoulder pads.  I had forgotten about those (I do remember removing them from this top when I bought it!)

Flashdance flashback! These look great on you and are very wearable, especially #3!

Yes, you got it!  Interesting how many aspects of the 80s there were.  My school was very preppy "Buffy" (not the vampire slayer) - turtlenecks printed with whales and Izod shirts and penny loafers.  I get the sense other parts of the country had different 80s things going on.

Ooh, 1 and 3 are my faves. Well done!
