K/P some new-to-me clothes (long)

I went shopping.... online here at the style forum, and to a thrift store.

These items are now mine.  But I'm not opposed to passing them on if they're not right for me, so I want your honesty :)

#1-2 First up, Eileen Fisher draped dress that Shannon wears so famously.  I had never seen an Eileen Fisher item in real life, so when Susie offered them, I took the leap.  They are indeed fabulous quality and feel!

Pros: beautifully made, fits properly, would replace two, maybe three, other black dresses in my wardrobe. And it's washable!
Cons: I had convinced myself to start steering clear of black since it's not my best color.  Does lipstick and mascara counteract the black enough?  Also, it shows my tummy pooch - do I look pregnant in it?

#3-4 Orange Eileen Fisher silk tee.   The color made me wonder if I should buy it, but I decided to try it out.  It's a very deep reddish orange.  And while I love strong colors, I wonder if it's too strong, or too warm for me?

Pros: It's lovely, hand-washable, cool and swingy
Cons: It requires a cami, mitigating it's "cool" factor, and I'm not sure that I can pull off the color.  What do you think?

#5 Red Eileen Fisher sweater.  This is, I think, one of my best colors.  And I like the sheer stripes.  In the pic, I'm wearing a nude tank under it, but I think I'd wear a dark tank with it.  Sorry for the mussed hair.

Pros: Love the color, and the sheer stripes
Cons: I already have two other sweaters in a very similar color (that I don't already have complaints about).  I may need to pick a favorite and purge the other two.

#6-7 Purple Ann Taylor mixed-media top. Color is kinda in between #6 and #7.  I think this is also a really good color for me.
Pros: Love the color and the fit. Will replace two light-weight sweaters in a similar color that are more body-con that my current preferences.
Cons: Can't think of any?  It's polyester?

#8-9 Dark wash jean "shorts".  I'm not sure whether to call these shorts or culottes.  I've been watching for a pair that has no fading and is more relaxed than tight fitting.  These, if they pass, will replace the shorts in #10 and the shorts in #11.
Pros: Dark wash, long length
Cons: High waist, do they fit properly?  I lightened photos to try to show the detail better.

I think they're all worth keeping. See how you feel about the colour of 3-4 by the end of the season once you've worn it a few times.

The black EF dress looks fine, and is totally wearable. Have you tried wearing higher rise undies with the frock?

Burgundy is a lot more flattering than tomato red on your complexion. I love the shape of #3 Amy, but the colour is too sour.

#5 and #6 are your best colours. Keep. And I love the denim culottes. I want a pair too. xo

I prefer the colours in 5 & 6 to the bright red in 3/4. I really love the shapes of 5 & 6 on you too.  The new denim pedal pushers look great!

If you don't have any complaints about your other two red sweaters, and this is one of your best colours, and you have laundry bottlenecks, and you already paid for all of them, why do you need to get rid of two? Just make it a signature colour/look!

If you're at all interested in seasonal colour analysis, I'd guess from these pics that you're a summer or autumn vs winter or spring, just because of how less saturated colours meld right in & make you glow whereas when you wear brights like in 3/4 my eyes go to the shirt instead of your face. Just my opinion though so feel free to ignore it. :)

Oh I just scrolled up and saw Angie's commented, so that's that!

I love the burgundy/ plum coloured ones on you. Definitely keep those. The top in particular looks great, and I adore the jean culottes or pedal pushers or whatever you want to call them!

Thank you Angie, E and Suz.  You're right, the orange is just too yellow for me. Sad, because of all the new clothes, it's my favorite shape.  I think before I try to resell it, I'll see if I can make a sewing pattern from it.

The others will stay, as you suggest.  I have already added the deep red sweater to my sweaters bin, and when it's cool, I'll assess whether three in similar colors is too many.  E may be on to something that with my laundry situation....

I'll grab a pair of control top undies to wear under the EF dress :)

Amy you look great in everything:)  The orange may not be your best colour but its not terrible.  I love that top and I wonder if layering a different colour under it would make it work better for you??

And I have to interject here and say the EF dress is TDF and darling there are no cons to wearing a black dress... in my world anyway lol

I love everything on you! The tomato red is definitely not as pretty a color on you as burgundy but it isn't bad either, as Deborah observes. But what I do not like about that top is the side slit. Way to high for the light colored cami. Do you think you could remodel that top with darker cami?

you look great in 5, & 6 /7.  wonderful color on you. i like, but don't love the orange in 3/4. orange is such a funny color, i find it hard to find a good one, and hard to wear as with black i often feel like halloween.  the culottes are fab. there is something slightly nautical about them.  the dress is lovely, and i can see it being versatile, as it can be dressed up or down by changing shoes.

I would pass on the orange. I recently chose to return a bright green top. I think the color was too intense on me the same way this one is too intense on you. Just overwhelming.

But everything else, keep. As for the pedal pushers, I LOVE them on you. They fit so well and they have a relaxed but also refined look. To me they are a definite upgrade from both of the other pairs. I wonder if you want to keep one very casual pair for rough-and-tumble trips to the playground? But if not, the new ones are fantastic. Definitely a step up and love them on you.

I think the dress looks great and will only look more great with high-waisted panties under neath. Love all the burgundy-toned tops -- they're perfect.

Whoo hoo! A great haul Amy!

I love the EF dress - as Angie suggested, just change the underwear and you'll be good to go.

Agree with the others that all of these are great on you except the orange sweater - shape and fit is fab but the color is a bit off for you.
