WIW: Iterations on Woman with a Book - Picasso day 2

Since I did a color-based theme on yesterday's painting, I wanted to avoid just doing a color copy of "Woman with a Book", and instead jumped on the rich mix of textures that the woman is wearing - lace, a solid, smooth skirt, and eyelet (or print) sleeves, all in tonal variations.

My first thought was to wear leather and lace - but it's a stark contrast (white lace, black leather), so I went with the more subtle cables and houndstooth, in tonal variations.  I liked it (#1), and I think I'll wear it soon.

But today is St. Patrick's day, and it seemed foolish to not wear green - especially when it's so prevalent in the painting, so I went back to colors.  I tried to mix the colors in with mixed textures.  I wasn't a big fan of any of those (#2 is representative), so settled on the blue-teal-green color mix in the painting (my hair provides the oranges).

I found one summery mix that I think will get wear this summer (#3), but settled on a deeper toned mix for today (#4), because I would have had to iron the top in #3.

I haven't figured out the shoes thing yet - these are espadrilles in honor of today's blog post :)

The question is:  I'm going out with a girl friend this evening - to something for St. Patricks at her church. Should I actually wear #4?  (Probably with black shoes?)

Those are great jeans in #2 and #4.  I don't remember seeing those before.  I think #4 is a nice outfit and would wear it out.  I also really like #1.  The soft colors and textures are a great mix.

I'm adding the painting for reference. Super fun to see you get into this.

Love #1. You look pretty, polished and just all round lovely, Amy. A little '20s. A fun lateral interpretation of the painting.

I'm loving the jeans in #2 as well. Is that paisley?

Fun Spring colours in #3. However did you get your shirt and shoes to match so well?

Happy St. Paddy's Day. I vote wear #1 tonight. WELL DONE.

Ooh - thank you Angie (and sorry for forgetting to attach the photo!)  Thanks also Sara!

The jeans in #2 and #4 are a recent goodwill purchase - they are indeed paisley, and teal (even though they showed up cobalt in the pics).  I loved them in the store, then got them home and thought I'd gone nuts.  But now that they're in the drawer, they're calling to me, and I suspect I'll keep them.  I've always loved crazy pants!

You wear the crazy pants well.

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

Nicely done! I think the crazy pants are most like the Picasso, but the other outfits are great, especially like 3!

And yes, I'll wear #1 out tonight.  I'll even do my brows and eyes (and maybe lips) to look polished :)

Four great outfits here Amy!  I agree that the paisley pants are most like the Picasso and think you could wear either outfit #4 or #1 tonight - but if you want to stay in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, then by all means wear #4.

Wooohoooo. LOVE the sound of that.

I also thought 20's when I saw #1, I think you should wear it. It's a great look and I love how you moved away from the color in your interpretation. The paisley jeans are really cool, I think you pull them off well. And I love #3 for a casual summer look.

I love #1 - great choice for tonight. Both those sandals and the espadrilles are terrific. I like how you picked up on the textures in the painting - it is so interesting to see what catches everyone's eye.

Wow, I really like all of these on you! This looks like a nice mix of casual, smart casual and a bit dressier; very nice!

What a clever idea to work with the textures rather than the colors!  I really like these variations on the theme.  #1 is so lovely and soft, and I think it goes so well with your hair color, by the way.  And of course I love the crazy pants; they are perfect for Picasso.

All 4 outfits are great Amy. I'm loving the paisley pants outfit the best , but I have a soft spot for your skirted look in #1. I'm glad you're wearing it tonight.

#1 is ultra hipster cool. It's the sweater, which is also ultra hipster cool in #2...

Great outfits, Amy, and I like the way you've interpreted the picture. So thoughtful. I like #1 for going out tonight!

This is such a thoughtful rendition, moving away from colours alone.  You have captured the beach theme perfectly.  I love those paisley pants, as part of your theme here and on their own merit - they are beautiful on you.

I really like all of these - great interpretations :)

Number 1 has my vote also. Hope you have a great evening! Love your interpretation.
