Playing with Tube skirts

I finished my tube skirt and now  can't wait to wear it all the time.

Here's a few combos with it, and some questions.  (And just for fun, I'll post some out-takes of things that totally didn't work with it in the comments).

#1-#2 The two favorite (of mine) combos for this skirt.  #1 is the gap mesh-sleeved sweater that the marvelous Susie sent me.  #2 is a short-sleeved cowl neck sweater.  Does the length of the skirt work with these booties?

#3-#5 Because my semi-annual work conference is approaching, I'll be forced to wear the short-and-boxy polo again soon.  I think it might work with this skirt better than most combos.  What do you think?  Also, do the shoeties work with it, or do I need to stick with the ballet flats if I'm going to wear this skirt in a business casual conference environment?

Thanks so much for your help!

And the not-so-great to really-bad combos with the tube skirt.  Don't laugh too hard - I was trying some pattern mixing.

    #1 is the worst.  Gaa!
#2 is gold stripes - they didn't play too nicely together.
#3 isn't too bad, but I felt like the orange was too bright for the black/white.
#4 is fine, and I'll probably wear it, unless you think it isn't okay.  It just didn't make the favorites list.
#5.  Maybe with a shorter plaid shirt I could do the grunge-with-a-skirt look?
    #6, like #4.  I'm sure I'll wear it.
    #7. What was I thinking?

Love #1 and # 2. Booties/shooties rock with this skirt:).

For your conference, yes this is doable, however I would be inclined to wear a plain skirt with the work polo. But that is me. I find such a contrast between the boring work polo (I have one I have to wear this week too) and the cool skirt. Having said that, it does work:).

And in your second lots of pics, I really like #4.

    Awesome job on the skirt.

1 and 2 are amazing!  I love your booties, they look just perfect with black and white.

I was not so enchanted with the polo shirt but then I read your post. I think it works, although it seems like it would go best with something like a simple denim skirt (similar to what Deborah said).

I also like #4 from the second set.

Awesome is right! The skirt is perfect. I love 1 and 2. Out of the second set, I think 4, 5, and 6 all work. I vote nay on the combo with the work polo. I do commend you for trying to elevate that annoying garment!

You are so clever, this skirt turned out awesome! I love 1 in the first grouping and 4 in the second is out of this world for me.

What about shirring the side seams of the work polo so the hem is curved similar to the orange shirt?

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

#1 and #2 are WOW! Love them! I need to see the blue shirt with all the options to know which is best of course ;-) Anyway my favorites of your second set is #6 and I do want to see more of the top in #7 although maybe with trousers or jeans. Great job!

Thanks for your thoughts everyone - I see #4 from the "comments" set really belongs on top with the good ones. Do the black booties (shoeties) in #3 and #4 with the work polo work with the length of the skirt?  I know the burgundy booties do, but I'm less sure about the black ones, and they're my comfiest shoes so I'd like to wear them with this skirt if it works.

And thanks for the thoughts on the work shirt with this.  I have some navy jersey knit that would be the right weight for another tube skirt. Maybe I'll get the time to make a plainer one.

#1 and #2 are fantastic! I prefer the work shirt with the skirt and flat shoes. On the not-so-great list, I like #3 and #6.

Great job on making the skirt!

So so great!  You look fabulous.  :)

I think #4 and #6 from the second set belong in the "good" set.  You're going to have such fun with this skirt!

Love looks 1 and 2!!! With the polo, I think stay with the ballet flats. Shooties + polo + midi could possibly be read as a kind of matronly vibe.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

    #2 of your first set
#4, 5 and 6 of the second set

    are my favorites.

And if you want to wear the skirt during the conference, I think the ballet flats work best.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I just love to watch the way you take an idea and explore it! You have done wonders with this oh-so-flattering tube skirt.

Like the others, I really like #1 and #2 in your first set -- they are stellar! And I quite like 4 & 6 in the second set and even the idea of 5.

For the work situation, I'm with Pil. Can you alter that work polo on the bottom a bit -- change the hem line? That might make it more flattering. I also think a plain blue tube skirt with the ballet flats would be the way to go.

I love how you're messing around in your closet, Amy. (((HUGS))). It made my day seeing this thread.

I am in love with #7 in the second set. So fashion forward.

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

Amy, you are so handy with a needle and thread! Great job on this smashing skirt, and thanks for the reference photos, they really help me.

1 and 2 are perfection. I really think 5 from the second set belongs in the "Do" column. It's so unusual and the booties pull it together neatly. Trying to like #7 because Angie likes it, but can't . quite . wrap . head . around ... and I'm spent. :D

WOWZA on 1 and 2 from the first batch.  I had never thought to wear ankle boots with the skirts. It is really great.

I LOVE 4 from the second batch ( excuse the yelling, LOVE ) and I really like 6, FWIW.

These tube skirts are a gift from the heavens, I am convinced.

Amy, your skirt is fabulous. Great job! I also love #1 and #2 and I agree that the work polo outfit works best with ballet flats. Of the second set of photos I like 4 and 6 best. Looks like you've had a lot of fun doing this :)

I guess I'm the only one who actually likes it with the houndstooth, lol!
