Winter 30x30, and selfie attempts.

In my head, I've been doing an approximate 30x30 since summer.  But I haven't documented nor counted anything.

In the spirit of having fun, and needing a tad bit of a diversion, I'm challenging myself to document my favorite 30ish pieces for winter, and to consider purging the rest.

The limitation to a smaller number of pieces that I've discovered so far is laundry.  There's times I wear something I don't love simply because what I do love isn't clean yet.  Today, though, what I love is clean, so I decided to try for a photo of my current favorite FFB outfit: perfect jeans (the lemming ones from WHBM), navy sweater and interesting scarf.

I'm comfortable in this casual outfit - it feels just pulled together enough.  I'd eventually like a different navy sweater for this sort of combo, but haven't found the right one yet.

Honest feedback is invited - and suggestions for improvements (including selfie-taking with a phone improvements).  Thanks you all!

30x30 pieces:
WHBM blue jeans
Navy sweater
Burgundy shoes (these are my at-home around-the-house comfortable-for-working-at-my-standing-desk-all-day shoes.  They're not all that pretty, but I like the color and wear them almost every day)
blue water lilies scarf (I think I'll end up lumping every scarf I wear into one piece.  But for now I'll document it like an article of clothing)

What a fun challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I so look forward to seeing what pieces you decide to keep/purge.  I understand that laundry bottlenecks can be a problem with a small wardrobe.  Perhaps other Forum Members might offer suggestions to you.

I genuinely love this outfit on you.  The colors really suit you.  That scarf is to die for.  The selfie is great too.

(Oops, meant to put this in WIW category.  Sorry!)

Thanks Sterling!  I've worn a version of this outfit at least once or twice a week for months already, and still love it.

This should be a favorite - you look great. Pulled together, the scarf makes it. I love the burgundy shoes. What brand style are they? I’m a huge fan of Merrill Encores for comfort with my particular foot issues, but they aren’t attractive.

Isn't it great when an outfit just feels like you? That scarf looks perfect--big enough to snuggle in against the cold, but not so much it's in the way. What kind of fabric is it? Your shoes look good to me; do you keep them on at home, even when you're working?

    Thanks Karen and FashIntern -

The shoes are old Clarks, and I do wear them all day long indoors.  I work at home, and stand on a treadmill (that I rarely turn on) to work, and shoes are more comfortable than slippers or bare feet for that environment.

The scarf is a large silk square that a friend bought in an airport (in London, I think) to give to me almost twenty years ago.  It's always been one of my favorites.

You look great!  Good for you for wearing a scarf at home... a detail that really elevates an outfit, yet would be so easy to leave off.

  • amiable replied 6 years ago

Elizabeth - Thanks!  It's not really about elevating the outfit in this case, though I like to do that.  But I like to have my neck warm :)

    Pretty scarf, fun challenge!

I really like this outfit, I can imagine wearing it. I especially like the pairing of Burgundy boots with blue.

Such a pretty colour on you and a lovely scarf! Exciting challenge - it will be so interesting to follow your process.

I love blue and this outfit looks great. What other colors do you have in your capsule?

You look stunning in this blue, Amy! Wow. Love the jeans on you, too. I wish I had managed to get a pair of those when the going was good!

The blues are great on you. I would want the sweater to be just a bit longer so it didn't ride up when I reached up, but that is a small quibble. The jeans look amazing on you!

  • amiable replied 6 years ago

Thanks for the compliments on the blues - I prefer blue to black on myself by so much now that I'm considering whether I can just phase black out altogether.

Shevia, I agree, the sweater is just a smidge too short for comfort.  I hope to replace it, but have a hard time finding basic navy sweaters for some reason.  Some day.... :)

Bonnie, I also have a tonal red outfit on my favorites list - you'll probably see it soon :)

More fondness for blue on you. I also like your hair this way. Looking forward to seeing more of your favorites.
