WIW: Mushroom hunting (ETA: Our finds)

Taking a group of friends on a mushroom hunt this afternoon.  The weather is perfect for it, so I hope we find some :)

Full pants and full shoes are in order.  I'll likely slap on a long-sleeved jacket too - just in case there's shrooms and poison ivy growing together....

I definitely don't think this outfit is very special.  The shirt is short.  I'm really not pleased with my summer shirt options - I think I'll be needing to shop or sew :)

And here's some pics of our expedition, and finds.

Oh, we used to hunt morel mushrooms. Fun but watch out for ticks too. You may want a hat as they like to fall out of bushes and trees.

I am intrigued by this mushroom hunting!  I have heard of it, but I never knew anyone who did it!  Sounds like a lot of "dangers" to avoid, but morel mushrooms are sooooo tasty!!

You look perfect for your activity!

Good suggestion on the hat Joy - I'll add one!

There's not really more dangers than any other sort of a forest-y nature walk :)  Hoping we find some tasty morels!

I wish we lived near a place where morels grow! I haven't seen many edible mushrooms around here.

Oh, cool!  And a nice outfit for the task!  Good luck!

We haven't done any morel collecting - only late summer mushrooms like king boletes and chanterelles.  But I have an oyster mushroom kit in my kitchen right now (should have some mushrooms in a week or so) and DH is growing shiitake on the log in the backyard (we have already collected about 2-3 lbs this spring).

Cool Makrame!  I haven't tried growing mushrooms - Morels can be easy to find around here when the weather suites them.

It's too bad the shirt is short because I really like it. It looks like a nice soft, fine cotton and the colours suit you well. You look very fresh-faced :)

Btw, you got good looking kids. Weren't you going to make them some lederhosen? ;>

Not until I teach them to sing Do, a Deer, Rachy!  :)

I'll probably keep the shirt, even being short, and just watch for a replacement.
  • rachylou replied 10 years ago
    Haha! I like it.

    Really is a pretty shirt.

Back now - only one tick (and it came out easily), and LOTS of mushrooms.  It was great fun!

Perfect outfit for mushroom hunting - and I agree with Rachy - keep the shirt until you can find a longer replacement.  It looks nice on you - and totally works for the activity!  Love the pics of all the kiddies!  What a great experience for them - something the big-city kids would never get a chance to do!

Too much fun! Look at those mushrooms!

Oooh, mushrooms!  Have you ever read the book "The Debt To Pleasure"?

Oh yum. I just bought some mushrooms yesterday and you've got me wanting to fix them for dinner! Good haul.

This looks like a great outfit for 'shrooming. What a fun-looking bunch of kids, I'll get they had a blast!

Mushroom hunting sounds fun.  Definitely no chance of that in the desert I live in.  Your outfit looks perfect for a hike in the woods.  I like the top and it looks perfect for the summer.  Too bad it's too short.  I hope you find some good replacements.

Mushroom hunting was fun, and the kids did have a blast.  My hubby may take them again tomorrow :)

Una - I've never read it - I'll look for it in our library though - thanks for the recommendation!

Love mushrooms! You look like a wonderful and fearless leader of the band of adorable mushroom hunters!

Wow! Last time I went morel mushroom hunting we only got a handful and we lost our muffler.

I never heard of mushroom hunting, but it looks like fun! Your outfit is perfect for the occasion.
  • amiable replied 10 years ago
Yes, and thanks!  It was a good haul.  Around here, this many of these mushrooms would likely sell for around $100.  Of course, we'll eat them, not sell them.  Even the kids - who are very vocal about their hate of mushrooms - said "Wow, I never knew mushrooms could be this good!" tonight at supper.

My Grandpa used to go mushroom huntin' --- and squirrel huntin', and rabbit, turtle, deer.....well, you get the idea.

I always like the morels dredged and fried.  And, incidentally, I think you're dressed perfectly for the expedition!

How utterly fantastic !  First I love  the fact that you posted a mushroom hunting outfit. That is so cool !  Second, I just love it even more that you did a semi-tuck on the outfit.
