WIW: Silhouette challenge week 1

I originally didn't think I'd join Una's silhouette challenge, because I couldn't come up with anything other than sweaters with slim jeans (not quite skinny) that I wear.

But I decided to try it, just to see.

And it pushed me, but in a good way.  I needed this workout.

But in the end, I came up with more than 5 silhouettes, and am happy wearing most of them.  (You might have to teach me how to wear a dress in winter).

Here they are (with apologies for terrible pictures):

#1 Statement pants (cobalt corduroys) with slouchy sweater.  Sweater is probably about to get purged - it's pilling.  And I'm on the fence about these cobalt corduroys... not sure they have a place in my wardrobe either.
#2 dress with a cardi and tights.  I changed to moto boots before going out, but that pic didn't turn out.  This felt off to me - too juvenile, too chilly, and just weird.  What do I need to do to fix it?
#3 sweater over shirt, with slim brown corduroys - I liked the idea of a brown/black mix, but in the pic, I think it's too dark.
#4 same sweater as #3, but under a vest, wish faded black slim jeans.
#5 white slim jeans with navy sweater (not quite as slouchy as #1, and pardon the peek of my undershirt covering my black belt).

I can think of at least a few more silhouettes (I have some bootcut jeans and some wide-legged trousers that I haven't worn yet, and I may try some skirts too), and the only one here that I think really didn't work was #2.  Are these all different enough to be considered different silhouettes?

What should I do to improve them?

You have great legs. Keep the cobalt pants. What if you tried a belt with the blue striped dress? It would add a bit more structure and the I think it will look better with the cardi.

Great response to the challenge! I like the cobalt pants; in fact that's my favorite outfit. The dress is nice, how about wearing it with a cropped sweater?

I agree to keep the cobalt pants! Fun color and they look like a good fit. Could also see them looking cute with the top and sweater in #3.

Really like the dress outfit, especially when I imagine it with the moto boots. Don't see juvenile or weird at all, although I guess chilly can't be helped. Maybe a black scarf could fill up the neckline to add some warmth without looking too busy?

I love the cobalt pants too. They're a great shape for you and the fit looks perfect. Maybe you just need to try them with a top that is less high contrast than the white sweater. That way the colour would blend rather than pop.
I like the dress outfit too but if it doesn't feel right then perhaps its not a good winter option. A couple of random suggestions - add a long silver pendant for a bit of sparkle and light, try a pullover either under or over it.

My favorites are the cobalt pants and the plaid vest. For the dress, I agree with Karie to try it with a cropped cardi. It would change the proportions. A moto jacket would also be a good bet and would look great with the boots.

I really like the cobalt pants outfit, too! The light and bright seem to lighten and brighten you and highlight your pretty features!  But I also know that darks are super hard to photograph so we might not be getting the full story.

I think the proportions of the dress outfit are a bit off and the fit of the dress itself is a bit iffy. A shorter jacket would help (as opposed to the cardigan) but I think the tights, the stripes, and all of that combine for the "juvenile" effect you do not love.

This was a great challenge! I look forward to seeing what you do next week!

YES! These are fab and you make the sweater over button down look easy! Love the dress too. Don't you feel like you are flexing some fashion muscle? :)

Same questions again: do you feel like it was hard to do this or a piece of cake? Any no brainers or rough days or faves? Unexpected moments?

Great job stepping up to the challenge. My favs are the last 2 outfits. I really like the blue pants, and would definitely keep. I wonder if what is bothering you about the dress is the length. I find that with dresses/ skirts that have volume, I want more length to help balance the volume.

Way to accept the challenge! I need to try this too. I actually quite like the striped dress in this winterized version. I actually prefer it like this to the summer version. I like the cobalt pants too - keep. I agree, you are a pro at the shirt under sweater look. Well done :)

Una - the hardest part was getting started.  Once I got past the dress, I was surprised at how many silhouettes I do indeed have - come Friday, I had three silhouettes in mind to choose from.  That, to me, was the biggest surprise.

#3 (the shirt under sweater), is what will become my winter FFBO, I think.  It is an easy look for me - thanks to looser fits.  That outfit felt like a piece of cake.
