WIW: easy dressing

After reading Astrid's thread where she mentioned giving herself permission to "just get dressed", I was inspired to do the same.  So most of this week I've done just that.  Here's the results of grabbing the shirt in the front of the drawer and picking some bottom that's appropriate to the shirt and the day's activities and weather).

#1 A woven tee with jean whatever-you-call-this-length-shorts.
#2 The Beth Ann copycat tee for a church ladies gathering.
#3 Camo shirt and black shorts for Saturday yard and housework.  Pardon the clunky shoes - I'm trying out wearing Birkenstocks all day long before springing for Birkenstock sandals.
#4-6 additional ways I tried styling the Beth Ann tee.  #4 is how she styled it, #5 with pink rather than my falling-apart black ones, and #6 with white jeans.  Somehow I feel like my dark hair demanded the darker pants - the white felt off somehow.

All comments (especially suggestions for improvement) are welcome!

All of these look great, Amy!

Nice! Actually maybe my favorites for you!

The second T looks so much like my Ted Baker one I had to follow the link.  I particularly love the first T...what is that?

    Thanks Kate and Peri -
Peri, I have no idea what the first one is.  I've had it for years and years.  Last year, I shortened the sleeves to make it wearable again.

I'm glad I inspired you! It looks all good to me. :) Deciding on this took a lot of stress out of dressing for me. Was it the same for you?

It's fun to see your hair longer, and in a happy Summer floral, Amy. #2 is my favourite.

  • amiable replied 9 years ago

So far yes, Astrid.  I love not having to think through how I want to look - just take the shirt on top and whatever works for the rest.  When I return shirts from the laundry, I put them in back.  I'm currently wondering why I haven't always done this.
Glad it's been working well for you also!

These are gorgeous on you, Ami! I love both tops, and this simple, easy presentation looks both sporty and elegant on you. The Beth Ann tee looks especially amazing with the white. Wow!

And Thanks Angie - I'm liking my hair more as it grows (though it's definitely due for a trim).  I think I'm going to go for something between chin and shoulder length.   #2 is my favorite too - I'm glad that I bought it (new, even!)  :)

They all look great, but I'm particularly fond of the outfit in #2 I love that top! The other stylings of it are great too.

Love the tee on you, Amy!  Incidentally, I just washed mine and line dried.  It shrunk a bit, but nothing noticeable.  I won't tumble dry.  I love it in #2 and 6.  I like the denim topper, too, although I think I'd love it even more with a full sleeve.

I think the first outfit is great, also.

I think the ability to "just get dressed" is helped by building a cohesive wardrobe -- laying the groundwork by learning about fit and proportion, building outfits and capsules.  No one has time to devote constant energy to style.  I find it works best to go in cycles -- seasons, capsules, travel, etc., and then let myself just "wear the heck out of my clothes."

You're "just getting dressed" is looking fab!

  • amiable replied 9 years ago

Yes Beth Ann - that was my experience too.  I washed and line dried, and it did shrink a little, but not a lot.  I'll need to be careful with it, as my kids generally do the household laundry, and tumble dry everything.
I still love the top though.  And you're right, that owning clothes that fit and in proportions that work for you makes just getting dressed work reasonably well :)

I think they all looks great on you. I like the white bottoms with the pink floral top. It brightens your outfit up a bit.

Love these! #1 and #6 are my faves. The Beth Ann top is ridiculously awesome on you.
