WIW: linen, jean skirt and hat

From now through mid-September it's hot and muggy.  So I'm looking forward to a few months to work out my summer style!

Here's a test-start:  linen eyelet shirt with a jean skirt.  The shirt will be too warm once summer gets really hot, but for these mid-eighties to low-nineties humid days, it's not too bad.

I don't think the jean skirt makes the cut.  I like the color, but not really the shape.  To me, it emphasizes my thick middle.

Is the top too long for the skirt?

I think I need white sandals.

Extra shot of my one summer hat - I don't really like this hat due to the pink and blue polka-dot ribbon glued to the top.  However, this shape of hat is by far the most readily available and the cheapest.  How does the shape look?  (for practicality, I think it needs a chin strap.  And I like a fedora shape better, but not sure it would work with my face and hair shapes)

White sandals. White sandals. White sandals! They are my holy grail at the moment. I cannot find a pair that fit, are comfortable, work for my lifestyle needs, and look good. If you find a pair, let me know if you please!

I like the shirt on you a lot. I also like gored skirts like this, but I tend not to like them in stiff fabrics like denim. I don't think it emphasizes any perceived figure flaws (in these pics, at least) but let your own comfort be your best guide.

As for the hat, it would be pretty and practical in the garden!

LOVE the hat!  Love the shirt!  Not a huge fan of the skirt -- I think the style looks dated, although I think it's flattering enough.

    And yes!  White sandals!

Two thumbs up!  I like the hat and the shirt a lot.  I also think white sandals would work well for you, especially with your skin tone.

Good to see you in a skirt  :)

Thank you Suz, Mary and Thistle -

I'm seriously considering buying white leather paint (here) and painting a pair of my sandals white.  I'm not sure I'll find white sandals another way....

What's keeping me from it is all the other options.  If I buy white paint, why not also buy blue, green, orange, and red, etc... and paint all my shoes wonderful colors?!

    Fresh and summery outfit.
How about tucking that shirt in? Also, white strappy sandals or wedges would go nicely with this outfit.

I like this all! I would try and swap out the skirt though, I think there are better ones out there for you.

I like the shirt and the skirt looks fine to me - no emphasizing anything from what I can tell. I actually don't love white sandals. I've looked at them, seen them on others and made the decision that personally white is not for me. Nude, metallic, a fun color I find much more interesting. The white ones almost always seem to read "frumpy" to my eye. Esp. if they are comfortable ones. Ducking now. lol.

While your hat looks perfectly fine for gardening and such, I think you could find more hat options to suit your needs and style. For me a strap is required due to high winds. I have several I have bought from various places and I think I prefer a darker shade of straw for the most part. I like more of a slight cowboy shape (with strap) or a floppier brim. I've purchased them for like $12 at the local Tractor Supply or for more like $30 from places like REI (sports/camping gear store).

Hmmm... good point about the frump factor of white sandals being higher than most.  I'll have to keep that in mind.  Thanks!

Also thanks for the suggestion to try Tractor Supply - we're there pretty frequently for chicken food and the like, but I never look for anything else.  I'll do it!

I love the white shirt and the idea of a denim skirt but perhaps not this one. I don't think it bunches in the middle at all. I am not a fan of gored skirts and would love to see you in a simple a line one or one. I like the hat, including the tie - fun and perfect for summer. I think the shape is great!

amiable - I meant to ask, are you able to wear that hat down further on your forehead - comfortably? I always use my hand to pull my bangs back and put the hat on from the front of my forehead towards the back to "scoop" my hair back off my face. I personally find hats to be much more comfortable to wear that way AND they stay put. In addition, my hair doesn't bother me in my face and it looks better (not so sweaty from my forehead) when I take the hat off and fluff. :-)  --  I require a fairly large size hat to do this comfortably, but would highly recommend trying this hat "technique."

As someone who has recently fallen madly and crazy in love with white YES YES YES you need white sandals!

Love this shirt on you and the hat is adorable. I'm not feeling the jean skirt though but I have a poison eye for that shape in denim so am probably not very objective.
