WIW: new-to-me basics

The trouble with a shopping marathon is that card-carrying members of Team Wear, such as myself, are faced with way too many options of what to wear first!  Argh - how to decide?

I had on my list " long sleeved striped shirt".  I bought three.  I also had on my list "gray skinny jeans", and bought two.

Here's one of each - a raspberry/black striped tee from Joe Fresh, and gray skinny jeans from Gap.  Both actually from Goodwill, of course.

I'm wearing my swashbuckling cardi over them and still freezing - I may need to break out one of my new sweatshirts or sweaters, or add my new-to-me thermal undershirt from Cuddl Duds via Goodwill)

What do you think? Will these work reasonably well in my wardrobe?  Do they fit okay?

Looking good! Try layering a long-sleeved T under the pink T!

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

From what i can tell, they both look great to my eye.

The pink T is 3/4 sleeved - would it look weird with long sleeves under it?  Actually, you do that frequently, don't you Kate - and it always looks great on you.  I'll try it!  Thanks!

They look like they fit, but it's a little hard to tell about the shirt's fit since it's under the cardi. That looks like a new color for you, too; how's it feeling? Yay for stripes!

Love the stripes, love the colour on you!

Hi Amy!  Raspberry is fantastic on you!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Yes to raspberry!  Fit on the skinnies looks great.  They look nicely scrunched in the front, but a little short in the back.  I have a feeling they just won't drop lower over the shoes, right?

Love the jeans on you and they look great with the sneaks.  Not loving the T, it is a nice color for you.  I'm not sure what it is about the tee, it looks dated (maybe the super skinny stripe?) and the neck looks stretched (or is there a ruffle around the neck?).  It's probably just me because I'm finding less love for tees in general.

    Thanks All!

Raspberry is a color I don't have a lot of - I think I've always avoided pinks and purples because they're so girly.  But I like them when they're not combined with ruffles and lace and such - I think my "twee" radar is bit overactive or something.  I just bought a plum (or grape?) hoodie too - so obviously these pinks and purples are growing on me :)

I'm liking the color pretty well - though I'm not sure that sitting at the computer working all day is really a very good test field.

The pants will stretch over my heels without shoes on, but I agree they look a bit short with shoes.  Perhaps these will be my "boots" gray jeans, and the other new pair (which is a bit longer if I remember right) can be my "shoes" gray jeans....

    Cross-posted with Tracina -

The neckline is neither ruffled nor stretched out in real life - but I do see how the front is a little bunched up in the picture - weird.   And you have a good point that the skinny stripe is probably a bit dated.  Oh well :)

I too have been avoiding tees except for layering - I was shocked when I realized how many I'd bought.  I might have benefitted from more restraint than I used...

Agree the raspberry is fantastic on you, and that the jeans are great. I like the idea of a long sweater with these two things... I don't know, thermal underneath?

None of this looks dated, Amy.  I love you in color color color! The raspberry is NOT twee, it is happy, energetic and stripes can never be outdated!

Your goodwill seems amazing and you are a super shopper.

Yup, it all looks good. Nice job thrifting,

Yep that raspberry looks stunning on you! And the jeans seem to be a great fit too. Love the color!

    Thumbs up from me too.
