WIW: outfit iterations

I was meeting an old friend whom I haven't seen in over a year today, so I had to agonize over what to wear. Here's a few of the iterations I tried....

And in random order:

#1 new gray jeans, stripes top, black bookending
#2 too formal: black pants and sweater, poppy top. Will probably wear this to church.
#3 light blue top with gray jeans
#4 realized the gray jeans are very similar in color and tone to my faded blue jeans. Are they too similar? A duplicate
#5 bootcuts with stripes and orange jacket. This is what I wore.
#6 What I wore (without jacket) - this is how I wore it most of the time.
#7 same as #5
#8 WIW yesterday for working from home. It's pretty "meh". I won't repeat it, I don't think.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions!

#5 looks great! I really like #3 and #4 as well. Both jeans are pretty similar on my monitor.

I love the outfit with the orange jacket! That color looks great on you.

#2, 5 and 7 are my favorites of this bunch.

I'd love to see the blouse in 3,4 with the orange jacket and darker jeans

I really really love those gray jeans on you. I think they flatter you as much as your red ones. I can't see them enough.

I love the outfit you ended up with (with and without the jacket).

Thanks! I was worried that the bright jacket was too much for the outfit once I looked at and posted the pics. I was kinda wishing I'd gone with a darker jacket. So I'm glad it worked.

The gray jeans are surprisingly similar to my faded blue ones. I'll keep them both for now, but I suspect they'll function so similarly that I'll like one better and purge the other.

Thanks Kalli for the other outfit suggestions! I don't feel like light blue so near my face does me any favors - maybe the orange will help it out some :)

Great choice:) #5 is my favourite.

You know, I like you in strong color! You wear it really well. To my eye when you wear all soft colors it's not as flattering. And even without a bright, for example, #6 looks better than #1 to me because the color of the jeans is more saturated. And honestly I quite like #8 but if it felt "meh" then it's a don't repeat.

How do you feel in strong colors vs soft ones?

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

I particularly like 4 and 5 too! Hope you had great time!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

You nailed it Adelpha - I need saturation in my colors. I'm guessing it's because my hair and eyes (especially eyes) are very saturated browns and my skin is light. I used to think I just liked dark colors, but I'm learning that I like just any color if it's saturated enough for me. I think in particular I need saturated colors close to my face (which is why that light blue blouse will never get worn alone). I was thinking, when I tried it, that the black made up for the faded colors. (Black is saturated, right?) It's not really the same as color though, is it... But maybe a better policy is just to make sure that I have a saturated color somewhere. I need that strength :)

Love you in the bright orange jacket! So glad you went with it. Your little guy is adorable!

Another woo-hoo for #5 and #7. The grey jeans are keepers! I do like a topper over the stripe. It almost seems too boxy by itself, although photos can often make things appear stiff that really drape in real life.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

The stripes with the orange are so great on you!! Hope you had a good time with your friend.

  • Adelfa replied 11 years ago

IMO--black sort of makes up for it. But not all the way. (I speak from the depths of experience as a dark-haired, dark-eyed lass who has worn far too much black!)

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Thanks again Adelpha - I'm so new to this - I really value the wisdom of you all who have followed style and fashion much longer than me. It's my guess that a very deep blue would much better than black here - and it's a better color on me too.

Well done on choosing #5. The orange jacket looks great, a confident colour choice that suits you. I also think the darker jeans are much more flattering.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

I see you went with number 5 that was my favourite too - I think you are right about the saturated colours close to your face they really make your complexion look great and your eyes sparkle.

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

Love the final choice, Ms pretty Smile, and I hope you had great time catching up with your friend.

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

I love the poppy top in #2 - where did you get it? It's very colorful and looks fab on you. You look great in strong colors!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    #1, #4 and #7 are an 11 out of 10! Well done :)
